Dani Dupri is a strong and fierce woman on Beyond the Gates. Karla Mosley had to prepare for this role by finding her strength through an unlikely source.
Tapping Into Inspiration
In an interview with PEOPLE, Mosley revealed how she gained the strength to play Dani, a character going through a devastating divorce. She found out that her ex-husband slept with her daughter’s best friend. Mosley admitted that she’s nothing like her alter-ego. She’s the type to run and hide.
“Dani doesn’t shrink and doesn’t hide,” Mosley told PEOPLE. “I’m someone who, when things get exciting, I want to go upstairs and curl up under a blanket. But [Dani] is not that person. So allowing myself to shine and be big and be seen in this way was kind of the inner prep that I had to do.”
One lifetime offered Mosley some “inner prep.” During the interview, she revealed that giving birth helped her uncover her inner strength. “I think that life and the change that happens in a woman when she becomes a mother and realizes that power… I had both of my kids upstairs in a pool,” Mosley admitted.
The BTG breakout star felt like she could get through anything. She credits motherhood with helping her prepare for the role and channeling her inner Dani. Mosley is a mom to two daughters, Aurora Imani, 6, and Willa Josephine, 3.
BTG Scandal
Mosley is no stranger to the soap opera world. She played Amanda Sinclair on The Young and the Restless and Maya Avant on The Bold and the Beautiful. Dani is in the midst of drama. Her former husband, Bill Hamilton (Timon Durrett), had an affair with Hayley Lawson (Marquita Goings). The couple announced their engagement and bought a new home in Fairmont Crest. As her family watched, Dani ignited their feud by slapping Hayley across the face.
“Dani is [in the middle of it],” Mosley explained. “And if she’s not, she’ll insert herself in some way. I’m like, ‘Dani, this isn’t even your thing to talk about; why are you in the middle of it?’ She is not going to let a moment pass if someone needs to be read.”
Behind the scenes, the cast immediately “fell into those roles.” Mosley revealed that they immediately “trust each other.” They’re excited to see where these storylines will take them. Mosley also feels that new shows like BTG will usher in a new era of soap operas. The B&B alum recently defended the soap opera genre.
