Beth Maitland — A Biography
Beth Maitland was born in Rapid City, South Dakota but moved to Scottsdale, Arizona at age 7. She began her acting career on stage with over 80 productions ranging from Shakespeare, comedies, and musicals, including two years at the Lyric Opera Theater Company.
In 1982, Maitland joined the cast of The Young and the Restless as Traci Abbott, taking home a Daytime Emmy just three years later for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She has been working off and on ever since as a core member of the Abbott family on the #1 Rated Daytime Drama.
Maitland appeared with Carol Burnett and Hal Holbrook in an ABC production of Plaza Suite in 1987. She went on to portray a deaf school principal in Mr. Holland’s Opus opposite Richard Dreyfuss and Glenne Headly. Most recently, she worked on the film Number Two.
Besides her work on The Young and the Restless, Maitland’s character has crossed over to work on The Bold and the Beautiful. She appeared on an Emmy-nominated episode of Criminal Minds and Bronzeville.
When she isn’t working Maitland considers herself a passionate quilter. She was married to Christopher Banninger in 1989 but the couple has since divorced; they have a daughter, Emelia.
