Shemar Moore broke the hearts of The Young and the Restless fans everywhere when he departed the CBS soap opera about 20 years ago. While he’s returned for stints of varying length, the star has found regular work in primetime. Now, he’s got some news about his CBS nighttime show S.W.A.T.
“IT’S OFFICIAL BABY!!” Moore exclaimed on Instagram. “@swatcbs is coming back for SEASON 5.” The actor, who plays “Hondo” Harrelson on the nighttime police drama, made the announcement on set using a megaphone.
CBS also touted the news in a tweet that not only is S.W.A.T. renewed but so are four other series! “What do these shows all have in common?” began the CBS social media post. “They are all…RENEWED. CBS renews five of its veteran hit dramas for next season! – CBS original series @NCIS_CBS, @BlueBloods_CBS, @MagnumPICBS, @BullCBS and @SWATCBS.”
Moore’s S.W.A.T. TV father Obba Babatundé, a Daytime Emmy-winner for his role as Julius on The Bold and the Beautiful, weighed in on the happy news. “I can’t wait let’s gooooooo,” Babatundé tweeted.
Season 5 likely hasn’t been mapped out yet, however, Moore took to Twitter to invite former NBA player Charles Barkley ( Philadelphia 76ers), now a commentator for the NBA on TNT, to drop by sometime to shoot hoops and perhaps even be on the program. “Hey Charles!!! @NBAonTNT…you gonna come play ball and have some fun with us on @swatcbs for SEASON 5 or what?” Moore tweeted. “Have your people call my people. Let’s go!!!!….. GO CELTICS.”
S.W.A.T. is Moore’s fourth series regular role. In addition to his stint as Malcolm, for which he won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in Drama Series in 1998, he was also a series regular on the short-lived The WB series Birds of Prey and CBS’ Criminal Minds, which ran from 2005-2020. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
