The Young and the Restless has a daddy issue with Dominic Phillip Abbott Newman Winters Chancellor. Certainly, Abby Newman Abbott Chancellor is his mother, but who’s his dad? It was supposed to be Chance Chancellor, but now Devon Hamilton has staked his claim, and Chance welcomed it. However, Abby bristled when Devon referred to himself as “Daddy” when she handed over her son for his first official shared custody overnight stay.
Young and the Restless Daddy Issues
After signing on to be a sperm donor for Abby (Melissa Ordway) and Chance’s (Conner Floyd) baby, Devon (Bryton James) suddenly has shared custody. Although Abby initially felt furious over Devon’s request, Chance talked her into it after explaining how much he’s struggling since his return.
Abby reluctantly agreed for the good of her husband and baby, but she’s still not completely fine with sending Dominic off one night a week to live at Devon’s. The day they signed the new agreement, Devon surprised Abby by requesting the little boy that night. Again, Abby agreed against her better judgment.
My Two Dads
Things got strained for Abby on The Young and the Restless at the handoff because Devon told Dominic he would stay at “Daddy’s” house. Earlier, when Abby had told the baby what was happening, she referred to him as “Devon” and not “Daddy,” presumably because Chance is his “daddy.” It seems a bit quick and presumptuous for Devon to use the title too.
However, he’s not the only one. When Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) explained the situation to her beau Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson), she also said Devon would be a great “dad.” It just feels like too much, too quick, especially since Devon originally signed on as a sperm donor and godfather.
Although Devon is Dominic’s biological dad technically, we find it hard to believe how including him this fully helps Chance. Will he take those days without the baby to get therapy? And what happens when he is finally ready and able to fully be a father to Dom? What then?
Of course, the more people who love and support the baby, the better, but as with most things in the community baby storyline, this feels awkward. We’re not sure how long Abby will be able to hold on. Do you think she will be able to do it? Let us know in the comments section below.
