Mariah Copeland is pregnant on The Young and the Restless. On most shows, that would mean a front-burner story. (Or it means an actress with little story is pregnant in real life so the writers took the path of least resistance and made her character pregnant with little story, but we’re ignoring that for now.) But, on Y&R, Mariah is carrying a baby for Abby and Chance. Which means her last big scene was… eating potato chips and marshmallows. High drama!
The Young and the Restless’s Camryn Grimes’ Rich Resume
This is a Daytime Emmy-winner, people. A Daytime Emmy-winner at an age when most kids are still learning to read, much less reading and delivering lines well enough to win a trophy against adults. Grimes can act! Mariah is a fascinating character! Let her do something fascinating!
Y&R: Baby Love
Mariah (Camryn Grimes) was stolen from her mother at birth. She grew up in a cult. When she agreed to carry the Chancellor’s baby, she assumed her child would be raised in a loving home with two parents. But if Chance never comes home again, that would leave the baby to be raised by a single – and grief-stricken – mom.
Wouldn’t Mariah take issue with that? If she keeps the baby, it could be raised in a two-parent home with her and Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks). And then Mariah wouldn’t relive Sharon’s (Sharon Case) nightmare of losing her baby minutes after delivery. How would Abby (Melissa Ordway) feel about that?
Co-Parenting
But what if Tessa isn’t on board? She was happy to support pregnant Mariah – but not Mama Mariah. The deal was she’d hand the baby over to its true parents. Tessa wants to go on tour and perform, not sit home and sing lullabies. If she and Mariah see their futures in different ways, how can they have one together?
Either one of those would be great stories. And they’d be, you know… stories. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
