Why Johnny and Katie Need To Be Aged On The Young and the Restless

On The Young and the Restless, Victoria Newman Locke has uttered the magic words when it comes to kiddos: Boarding school. Victoria says that she wants them out of Genoa City for when Billy Abbott inevitably crashes and burns over whatever his latest cockamamie plan is this time.

The Young and the Restless: Coming of Age

Billy (Jason Thompson) pretended to go along with Victoria’s (Amelia Heinle) wishes, but then called the school’s headmaster and announced that Johnny and Katie Abbott would be coming home after the holidays.

Since it’s been a while since we’ve seen them anyway, why now would be the perfect time for a good soap-opera boarding school to do what a good soap-opera boarding school does: Age Johnny and Katie into the teens the show desperately needs.

Daddy’s Boy

An adolescent Johnny has a built-in storyline on The Young and the Restless. Isn’t it about time he found out that Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) is his biological mother? We can imagine the boy being furious, not just about being lied to for the duration of his life, but about how he came to be. (Let’s say that the word rape would not be inappropriate, and, no, we don’t mean Billy raping Chelsea. We mean Chelsea raping Billy.) When Billy had his fantasy a year ago about a rebellious, jailbird Johnny, he thought it was because the boy was angry over his dad’s death. Not being lied to about his mom.

The Other Woman

Right now, the budding romance between Faith Newman (Reylynn Caster) and Moses Winters (Jacob Aaron Gaines) is… there’s no nice way to put this… dull as dirt. Perhaps the injection of a newly teenaged Katie, who, in personality, takes after her feisty spitfire of a namesake, Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper), is just the thing to spice the lackluster teen scene up. And make it finally worth watching.
