The Young and the Restless welcomed Chelsea Lawson back with open arms (minus Victor Newman’s misgivings). However, it’s hypocritical that somebody with a long criminal history like Chelsea gets a pass while others like Tara Locke get run out of town on a rail.

Young and the Restless: Chelsea Hypocrisy

Both Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) and Tara (Elizabeth Leiner) embezzled money from their companies. Before she left the last time, Chelsea ran out of Genoa City, nearly stealing Christian Newman in the process because she’d set up an embezzlement scheme that hurt not only Chelsea 2.0 but also Fenmore’s. Meanwhile, Tara is out of town and on house arrest awaiting a federal trial on embezzlement charges. Where’s the equality here?

We love Egan, and we’re thrilled to have her back on our screens, bringing Genoa City’s most notorious con-woman back to life. However, we also love Leiner, and we don’t think Tara’s story is finished either. If Chelsea can so easily return without facing too many legal troubles after her crimes, then why can’t Tara?

Crimes Shmimes

In fact, most Genoa City residents have committed the odd crime or two, and only a select few end up paying for their misdeeds. Sure, Victor (Eric Braeden) spent a bit of time in jail in the past (what’s a little false murder confession and switching Jack Abbott for Marco among friends?). Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) also served a short sentence for the crash that led to Hilary Curtis Hamilton’s (Mishael Morgan) death.

Ultimately, Genoa City residents like Chelsea, Victor, and Lily have been accepted back into society. In that case, we don’t see any reason why Tara can’t come back to wreak some havoc on Ashland Locke (Richard Burgi) and Victoria Newman Locke (Amelia Heinle). Speaking of crimes…Ashland is no stranger to committing them, and he became part of the Newman family. What do you think? Let us know in the comments section below.
