Where, Oh, Where Has The Real Summer Gone From The Young and the Restless?

Upon Summer Newman’s most recent return to The Young and the Restless, she was arrested for stealing her (married) boyfriend’s car. Summer smiled and innocently said that she’d just borrowed it. He owed her.

When Summer was mad at her mom, she slept with Phyllis Summers’ (Michelle Stafford) then-live-in love, Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson). She deserved it, Phyllis shrugged innocently.

And when Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) dared look at another woman, Summer took advantage of Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle) needing a life-saving liver donation to tell Kyle she’d be happy to be Lola’s donor – as long as Kyle married her, stayed married to her for a year, and didn’t tell anybody why.

So where did this scheming bitch disappear to the minute Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner) unveiled her own blackmail plan?

Now, we realize that Summer has done all of her plotting in the sleepy burg of Genoa City. Tara is from New York City. They eat, chew, and spit out wannabes like Summer on a daily basis. But, still, we expected some fight from Summer.

Could she not have recorded Tara’s threats with her phone and played them for Kyle and Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman)? Could she not have threatened to reveal Harrison’s parentage to the media and kept the little guy from inheriting the Locke empire? Heck, could she not have thrown herself at Ashland Locke (Richard Burgi) and convinced him to go after Tara with everything he knows about her? Could she have kiboshed her shoe line deal with Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman)?

Where Have You Gone, Summer Newman?

We wanted to see some of the old, bitchy Summer, not this weepy quitter who slunk off at the first sign of trouble. If that’s how she’s going to play it, how are we supposed to root for her and Kyle to buck the odds and reconcile?
