On The Young and the Restless, Devon Hamilton is in agony over his decision to pursue legal custody of Dominic. While he didn’t do it out of malice, Abby Chancellor certainly feels attacked. In a recent emotional scene, Devon cried while looking at a photo of himself with Neil Winters. Devon most wanted to hear Neil say he understood, but what would Neil say to his son?
Devon (Bryton James) did get it right when he noted that Neil (Kristoff St. John) wouldn’t just tell him what to do when it came to Dominic. Devon’s adopted dad would help break the whole thing down for him. Yet, we can’t fathom that if Neil were alive, he’d like what Devon is doing when it comes to Abby, Chance, and Dominic.
We believe Neil would remain calm and lay things out for his son as he often did when Devon had big decisions to make. One thing we can’t consider, though, is that Neil would approve of Devon’s plans. More realistically, we could see Neil reminding Devon about their own difficulty bonding, impressing upon his son that difficulties don’t mean that a person can’t be a good dad.
It isn’t like Dominic is in any real danger. Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) is not going to harm the baby. In fact, he loves Dominic. A failure to instantly bond with a child doesn’t disqualify anybody as a parent — in real life or on Young and the Restless. Abby Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) is his mother, and she’s doing a good job. The Chancellors also have a nanny. So it’s a massive stretch for Devon to think that Dominic is in any peril.
We genuinely feel for Devon in this situation. However, ultimately, he agreed to donate a specimen to help Abby and Chance become parents. While we do agree that Neil would’ve let Devon make his own choice, it seems highly unlikely that the late Winters patriarch would tell Devon it’s a good choice. After all, Neil understood better than most the bond that could grow between a father and children who weren’t biologically his.
It’s difficult to guess what Neil might say, so what do you think he’d advise Devon to do about Dominic? Let us know in the comments section below.
