The Young and the Restless star Jason Thompson has been friends with photographer Brian Bowen Smith for a long time and recently gave his buddy props for a project that was released during the pandemic.
Thompson took to Instagram to share some photos that were in Smith’s new book, DriveBys. “A forever lasting memory!! One of the brightest and joy-filled moments of the “lockdown,” Thompson posted.
“[Brian Bowen Smith] and I have been very close friends for over 25 years. There have been plenty of laughs, plenty of tears, more than a few bruises, and a few surgeries. Late nights and always, endless fun. And it’s always been about connecting.”
The actor posted a great black-and-white photo of his family riding in a pickup truck that made the cut for the book. The noted photographer explained on his website that the project came together when he was driving around in her classic 1958 Ford F100, a car he calls “Pearl,” and snapping some photos of what he saw. That grew into what he called “a multi-faceted cross-country project of a lifetime.”
“The journey implements the new-normal of Social Distancing while documenting the soul of American culture during the Covid-19 World Pandemic,” Smith explained. “At a time when a mandated quarantine plagues our beautiful country, this project encompasses the raw essence of the human condition, our sentimental traditions…and at its core, the heart of our people…from sea to shining sea.”
Thompson was thrilled to be included and trusted his old friend with his vision. “There’s a safe place in our friendship. I think you can tell in this photo. I will cherish it,” the actor wrote. “Our little family was captured by a legendary photographer for a project that will go down in history!!! And he just happens to be one of my best friends. I’m forever grateful to you @sheabowensmith and @jonasurfs You’re a package deal and family to us. We love you.”
On-screen, Thompson’s Billy Abbott could use a little help from his friends. He’s in a battle of media companies against Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) and only seems to have Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) by his side. Who will win? Stay tuned!
