The Young and the Restless Recap: A Week of Fan Favorites

The Young and the Restless recap for July 20-24, 2020 features a dip into the soap’s archive for a look back at a few truly classic episodes and two not that far removed from recent memory.

The Young and the Restless Recap Highlight

Last week, it was all about the Fisher/Baldwin clan. This week, YR offered up some of the most asked for episodes, including its debut show and the time that Katy Perry stopped by the Restless Style office and made her position on her image clear.

Back to Basics

Monday’s episode featured a rewind to March 26 and 27, 1973. The Genoa City of yore is merely a “good-sized town” and the movers and shakers who occupy the area’s differing social circles are the business owning, upper-class Brooks and the working class Fosters.

Both families are linked by the romantic association of Chris Brooks (Trish Stewart) – reportedly the most sensitive and vulnerable of the four Brooks daughters (God help the family when Leslie stars having her nervous breakdowns…they’ll soon see what true vulnerability looks like) – and Snapper “Don’t Call Him Bill Junior” Foster (William Gray Espy).

To her, it’s a match made in heaven. To him, it’s a mere distraction – just like his relationship with waitress Sally McGuire (Lee Crawford). Brooks family patriarch Stuart thinks that it’s a good idea that the “kids” cool their jets…but he also thought it was okay to hire Brad Elliot, a virtual stranger (and a surly one at that), to work for his newspaper.

And he eventually married Jill Foster (then-Brenda Dickson). So what we are saying is that the man’s judgment is clearly suspect.

Katherine Chancellor: Pioneer Spirit

The following day, YR made television history by unveiling the results of TV’s first televised facelift. Katherine (Jeanne Cooper) wasn’t sure whether the outcome had been worth the pain but Liz Foster (Julianna McCarthy), her best friend, confidant, and mother to her mortal enemy, was there to offer reassurance and a helping hand.

Dru’s Big Fat Genoa City Wedding (Reception)

If there’s one thing that Katherine Chancellor can do well (aside from hiring the most competent plastic surgeon) it’s plan and host a wedding. The couple reaping the benefits of her efforts in 1993 was Neil (Kristoff St. John) and Drucilla (Victoria Rowell) Winters — and though the bride and groom were the pictures of happiness, they didn’t exactly stay together forever as so many at the reception predicted.

The One and Only Katy Perry

Katy Perry and her suitability as a cover model for Restless Style Magazine was the featured story on Thursday’s episode. Jack (Peter Bergman) preached the benefits of being conservative. Nick (Joshua Morrow) pressed for outrageousness. Katy Perry said that she would be the one deciding on her image – thanks but no thanks, gentlemen.

With This Ring, I Do Lie

When Devon (Bryton James) and Hilary (Mishael Morgan) said, “I do” back in 2015, both harbored regret in their heart. She over the affair they had while she was married to Neil. He over the (supposed) affair he had the night before. Suffice it to say, it wasn’t a match made in heaven. The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
