The Young and the Restless recap for February 17-21, 2020, features a gala brought to a screeching and bloody climax, a marriage proposal, a spot of blackmail, and more.

The Young and the Restless Recap Highlights

The understatements were flying fast and free this week. Among the best? “Newman family events can be combustible,” and “Billy…if you go to Victor’s party, it’s not going to end well.”

And It Doesn’t End Well At All

Sure enough, by the time the celebration of all things Victor was over, an art installation had been revealed and Victoria (Amelia Heinle), having been mistaken for Amanda (Mishael Morgan) — hey, we hear ya, but in Ripley’s (Christian Keyes) defense it was pitch dark in the room and she and Amanda had very similar ponytails — was brutally stabbed in the liver. By the way…what is up with this soap and damaged livers? Will Summer have to fork up again?

YR Recap: Musings

Chloe: “Adam’s out of town. Why?” Chelsea: “Business.” Chloe: “What kind of business? Murder? Mayhem?” Actually, Chloe, he was engaging in some cash transfers and perpetuating a fraud that he and Chance concocted explain the disappearance of a murdered villain.

Phyllis to Adam: “Chelsea loves you so much. She would do absolutely anything for you.” Like what Phyllis? Hand over her 25% stake in the Grand Phoenix to you in exchange for your silence concerning that pesky murdered villain? Touché!

Adam: “Will you marry me?” Chelsea: “In my heart, I’ve always felt like your wife…so yes Adam Newman, I will marry you.” A case of you lose some, you win some?

Chance: “Phyllis is coming after your shares too.” Abby: “She wants the entire hotel? …That miserable, conniving bitch!”

Now hold on there a minute Abby (Melissa Ordway). You’re awfully touchy for a woman who literally stole the project out from under Phyllis and contributed absolutely nothing to it, whereas Red designed it, oversaw the construction and named it.

Abby: “Blackmail is also a crime Phyllis. You should know. You went to prison for it.” Indeed she did. Her victim: Brad Carlton. The knowledge: His affair with Sharon (Sharon Case).

“Can you believe we climbed into our glad rags to honor Victor Newman? ..Well you got to give the devil his due, you know. We might have hated the son of a bitch, but you had to admire what he’s built here.” Jill Foster Abbott, the Princess of Perspective.

Billy: “I’m gonna stick around and…celebrate the great man, the honors, the accolades, the accomplishments, of course, and then all the parts about him lying and cheating and destroying people’s lives. Doesn’t exactly fit the narrative though right?”

Great point Billy. Notice Julia (Meg Bennet) didn’t stand up and give a speech about the years Victor emotionally and psychologically abused her, how he cheated on her, caused her miscarriage, held her a virtual prisoner in their home, and literally imprisoned her lover.

In case anyone is wondering what Lola’s (Sasha Calle) future plans are: “I want to open up my own restaurant.” Though it will probably prove to be a boring plot point, at least it’s a character throughline. The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
