The Y&R spoilers recap for Wednesday, September 21, 2022, brings cracks pushing through Diane Jenkins’s story as Nikki Newman gets the dirt from Deacon Sharpe while Phyllis Summers keeps pushing her nemesis.
Y&R Spoilers Recap Highlights
Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Deacon (Sean Kanan) met up. He expressed his surprise at seeing her, and she remained somewhat aloof. She took Deacon to task for taking advantage of her in a vulnerable state. She lambasted Deacon for not giving a “damn” about her. He admitted it’d started out that way, but then he confessed that he ultimately fell in love with her. Then, they flashed back to Deacon, trying to help Nikki get sober.
Deacon said he regretted what he did every single day, but Nikki didn’t believe a word of it. She confronted Deacon about helping Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) fake her own death. He didn’t know how she knew, though. Nikki dropped the bombshell that Diane returned to Genoa City, which Deacon didn’t know. He clued in that Nikki might be out for revenge, and Nikki said she was — but not on him as long as he complied.
Deacon couldn’t quite understand how he could help Nikki bring down Diane, but she insisted that he had to have some dirt on Diane’s time in Los Angeles. She demanded that Deacon tell her everything he knew so that she could expose Diane once and for all.
He insisted that he and Diane went their separate ways after Diane “died.” He did mention he saw her a couple of times as Taylor Jensen, riding around in an expensive vehicle. Deacon said he’d believed she was with somebody who was rich, but Diane wouldn’t explain things.
Nikki mused about whether or not Diane dated a rich man or she fell into her own money. Even so, Nikki insisted that Deacon give her some proof, but he reiterated that he didn’t know anything else. However, he offered to help Nikki in order to make amends, but she insisted she had no forgiveness for him. She played hardball and showed him the door, but Deacon told her to wait. He had to show Nikki something at work. She accused him of trying to lure her to the restaurant, but he denied it.
After Deacon left, Talia Morgan (Natalie Morales) debriefed Nikki in her hotel room. Nikki conveyed that Deacon said that Diane was living the high life, which contradicts the story Diane told when she returned to Genoa City. Then she admitted that Deacon wanted to give her something, and Talia advised Nikki to meet with him one last time with such a big potential payoff.
Young and the Restless: Mea Culpa
Diane ran into Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) at Society. He wasn’t too open to talking even though Diane tried. Then, Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) showed up, and she was practically chomping popcorn while watching the confrontation. Phyllis wished Diane good luck and warned her that Victor saw through her too. Then Victor and Phyllis shared a pleasant goodbye.
Diane tried to talk to Victor, but he continued to insist that they had nothing to discuss. Even so, she sat down and declared that she planned to do everything she could to prove she was a changed woman. Victor promised to pass that information on to Nikki — when she returned from her trip.
That piqued Diane’s interest. She wondered if Nikki was there on Newman Enterprises business, and then Victor asked if Diane worried his wife might uncover some damning evidence while she was on the west coast. Diane gave her sob story to Victor about how she’d worked so hard to make amends. Despite that, she didn’t intend to let anybody tear her down or scare her off because she’d worked too hard. Victor remained unmoved, though. He warned Diane that he enjoyed a good fight, and he told her how the whole thing would end should she continue.
When Diane returned to work, Phyllis was there. She asked questions about how things went. Diane tried to keep up her whole act, but Phyllis finally broke her. Diane went off the rails, yelling and melting down about how everybody else had done terrible things too. Diane warned Phyllis that she’d regret pushing her. Phyllis seemed pleased that she finally got the Diane she knew and hated to come out — it’s the beginning of the end for Diane.
Y&R Spoilers Recap: Another Mea Culpa
Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) called Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) to a meeting at Chancellor-Winters. She expressed her excitement about taking the company public, and she asked for an answer that afternoon. She also said she felt confident that Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) would return. Devon looked displeased about all of it.
Both Billy and Devon urged Lily to put the brakes on things. Devon pointed out that he didn’t want to lose control and have to answer to shareholders. He told Lily that no matter what the numbers showed, he was against it. She pushed forward anyway. Devon pointed out that they merged to create a family-owned business, and he said that there should be more than making money to running a business. His concerns left Lily unmoved, though.
As for Nate, he met with Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) at Chancellor Park, and they talked about the situation. Nate admitted that Chancellor-Winters would keep 51% interest, which made Victoria realize she couldn’t have the involvement she wanted for Newman Enterprises. However, Nate enticed her by explaining he’d be willing to sell her his shares. After hearing that, Victoria made a verbal agreement to let Nate run the company once she owned the majority of the shares.
Later, Nate walked in on the middle of the meeting at Chancellor-Winters. He admitted he’d resigned in anger and said he knew that he had to pay his dues like anybody else. Ultimately, he asked Devon and Lily for a second chance. He pretended to be contrite, and Lily and Devon wanted to know what changed Nate’s mind. He said he’d reflected on what Devon had said and that he realized he’d overstepped by lashing out. Nate admitted he was only thinking about himself and not the bigger picture. He promised Devon that he reported to Devon, and he asked Devon to be open to his ideas. Devon promised to do that but insisted that their back-and-forth had to stop. Then, they all welcomed Nate back.
Phyllis walked by, so she and Victoria talked. Phyllis pointed out that her dad wasn’t giving Diane the time of day. Then Victoria asked what her mom was doing in Los Angeles. Phyllis gave the whole spiel about her meeting with the Forresters about Summer Newman Abbott’s (Allison Lanier) wedding dress.
However, Victoria called her out on the lie. Then she yelled at Phyllis for encouraging Nikki to go to L.A. to meet with Deacon, knowing how bad things had been with her when he was around. Phyllis pointed out that maybe it’d be cathartic for Nikki, but Victoria didn’t quite agree.
Victoria went back to her office, and Victor showed up. She teased her intriguing plans to her father, but then she admitted she wasn’t quite ready to present it to him. Victor noted that Victoria and Nikki made a great team, and Victoria expressed her concerns about her mom and Deacon in L.A. However, Victor promised Victoria that Nikki was strong enough to handle it all.
