In this episode, Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) trusts his gut and checks on Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) against Lily Winters’s (Christel Khalil) wishes, and he literally pulled Chelsea back from the brink. Meanwhile, Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) insisted he knew Chelsea best and things were all under control. Finally, Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) gave Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) her best pep talk/sales pitch. Now let’s take a deep dive into what happened.
Young and the Restless: The Brink
Lily and Billy enjoyed some time on the dance floor at Glam Club, but when Lily suggested they take the party home, Billy didn’t want to due to his concerns about Chelsea. That irritated Lily, but he talked her into waiting there and finishing their drinks until he saw Chelsea return safely. Meanwhile, Chelsea stood atop the roof, looking out at the traffic with tears in her eyes, and she dropped her bag.
Lily told Billy it wasn’t their business what happened between Chelsea and Adam, but Billy was convinced that Adam had done something to upset Chelsea. He said his gut told him Chelsea wasn’t doing well, and Lily said she was sorry, but she hoped that Billy wouldn’t spend his newly found free time interfering in other people’s problems. She reminded him that he’d interfered with Nate and Devon Hamilton (Bryton James), and now with Chelsea. As Lily talked, Billy realized where Chelsea went, and he left her with a quick kiss. Lily was annoyed.
Adam walked over to Lily, and he snarked about Billy leaving her with the check. Lily wondered what was going on with Chelsea, and he reported that they’d had a great conversation, and she wasn’t upset at all. Adam couldn’t figure out why Billy wanted to be Chelsea’s knight in shining armor lately. He wondered what Billy was trying to make up for. Adam listed off all the things Chelsea’s struggled with lately, and Lily seemed like she didn’t believe Adam when he said he’d been encouraging to her. Adam suggested that Lily and Billy back off of Chelsea because he had things under control with her.
On the roof, Chelsea continued to be tortured by the words that people had said to her over the last several months. She screamed for them to stop, but they didn’t. Chelsea climbed onto the ledge, and Billy opened the door, calling her name. Billy talked to her, but she asked him to stay back. He asked if Adam had upset her, and then babbled a bit before trying to step closer to her. Chelsea insisted she wanted to be alone, but Billy said he planned to stick around. He offered her his jacket and asked her to step back from the ledge and put the jacket on.
Chelsea wouldn’t come down, so Billy climbed on the ledge too, which agitated her. She told him she wanted to be alone, but Billy wasn’t willing to do that. Chelsea cried when Billy asked her to talk, so he decided to talk. He listed off all the people who cared about her and needed her — namely Connor Newman (Judah Mackey). Chelsea opened up and admitted how bad it hurt every day when she woke up, and she admitted she’d rather not wake up anymore, and Billy thanked her for sharing. Back inside the club, after Adam talked with Lily, he left Chelsea a voicemail, wondering what happened.
Instead of stepping down with Billy, Chelsea listed off all the bad things she’d done and all the people she’d hurt. Chelsea said she didn’t deserve happiness and didn’t deserve to be part of the world. Billy disagreed, but she cried that she’d alienated everyone and had nobody left. Billy reminded Chelsea of her profound love for both Connor and Johnny. Billy told Chelsea that Johnny and Connor were at a sleepover together as brothers. He promised she would get past this, and he’d stay with her every step of the way. Chelsea kissed Billy’s cheek, and then she asked him to tell Connor she slipped as Billy screamed no.
Billy grabbed Chelsea, and they struggled on the ledge. They fell backward onto the roof. Chelsea cried as Billy reassured her she’d be okay and get through everything. They sat up, and Chelsea admitted she was so tired. She complained that nobody wanted to deal with her, and all anybody wanted to do was ship her off with a stranger to get better. Billy pledged to stay with her, and Chelsea couldn’t understand why he’d do that.
She pointed out that she’d ruined the podcast, but Billy said that his leaving had nothing to do with her. It was all him. He said he’d felt alone and misunderstood before, and he promised her she would get out of her low time. Adam walked out onto the roof just as Billy bundled Chelsea up to take her inside. He demanded to know what was happening, but Billy told him it wasn’t the time, and he walked Chelsea inside.
Y&R Recap: Pep Rally
At Newman Enterprises, Nate walked into Victoria’s office and said, “trick or treat.” They sat down and talked, and Victoria hoped Nate could accept her offer, but Nate disappointed her by saying he couldn’t accept it. Victoria wondered if Nate had patched things up with Devon, but Nate admitted that wasn’t why he wouldn’t work for her.

Instead, Nate warned Victoria that if she hired him that everybody would connect the dots that Victoria was the Chief Executive Officer he’d conspired with. He didn’t want to put a target on her back. Victoria appreciated Nate’s concern, but she told him she didn’t need protection. She even pointed out that she’d be crazy to hire somebody who’d wrecked her plans. Nate admitted that things with his family weren’t repairable, and he wondered why Victoria would want to hire him anyway.
He reminded Victoria that Ashland Locke (Robert Newman) had offered him a job, but Victoria said her late husband had acted alone. Then she told him that Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) wasn’t for it, but Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) supported hiring Nate. He pointed out that he’d just betrayed his whole family while she remained loyal to hers. Victoria insisted that Nate was loyal to her, which is why she wanted to hire him.
Nate continued on about how bad a thing he’d done trying to sell out his family. He wasn’t even sure anymore if he was a decent man, and he told Victoria that he wasn’t a good choice to run his company. Victoria noted that Nate rejected her offer out of guilt. She talked him up and told him he was still a good man deep down. Victoria insisted that he’d be an asset to Newman Enterprises.
Nate wondered if Victoria was giving him a pep talk or a sales pitch, and she admitted it was a bit of both. She asked him what he really wanted, and he admitted it was to join her company.
Coming Up Next On Y&R Spoilers: Secret Alliance
Coming up next, you will see Devon realize the truth that Victoria was the CEO that Nate had conspired with against Chancellor-Winters. He will no doubt call them both out and feel very betrayed, especially considering how close the Newmans were to Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John). Victoria will likely point out it was just business, though.
