Why Y&R’s Victoria Newman Is Just Begging For a Wrongful Termination Suit

The legal department better get ready!

Victoria. Newman Young and the Restless
 Comments

Victoria Newman informed her brother that she was going to be making some staffing changes on The Young and the Restless. Sally Spectra, the woman who ran her own fashion house in Los Angeles and has been in charge of Newman Media for months, is out, and Nate Hastings, former surgeon and recently fired from his Chief Operating Officer job at Chancellor-Winters is in. It’s the only thing that makes sense, don’t you know?

Young and the Restless: Right To Work

Now, we’ve done our research, and we realize that Wisconsin, where Genoa City is located, is a right-to-work state. Anybody can be fired — anybody can quit — without needing to show just cause. But that doesn’t make it a complete professional wild west. There are still grounds for a wrongful discrimination suit. And Victoria (Amelia Heinle) is wracking up the infractions.

Young & Restless: Highly Qualified

First of all, Nate (Sean Dominic) has much less experience in the new media space than Sally (Courtney Hope) does, AND he was just terminated from his last job — with prejudice. Hard to justify his being a better fit than the person currently holding that position.

Victoria Newman: #MeToo

Second of all, Victoria is pretty sure that Sally has been sleeping with Nicholas Newman (Joshua Morrow). She may not be happy about it, but she can’t claim ignorance. It was a problem initially because Nick was Sally’s superior, and he’s the one who lobbied for her to keep her job when Victoria wanted to fire her last time. (For the very professional reason that Sally was then the girlfriend of Victoria’s other brother, and Sally’s then-boss, Adam Newman [Mark Grossman]).

Sally and Nick have decided to cool off their relationship. And now Victoria is firing her? Let’s add Sexual Harassment to that list of offenses, shall we?

Y&R: Dumb Call

And, finally, forget Sally. Victoria claims she wants to hire Nate because he proved his loyalty by not revealing that they were colluding together. Once he suddenly gets yet another job he isn’t qualified for…won’t the cat be out of the bag? How dumb can one smart woman get?
