The Y&R recap for Wednesday, October 26, 2022, brings a surprising offer for Nate Hastings from Victoria Newman, but it’s not clear what he’ll do.
Y&R Recap Highlights
Today, Victoria (Amelia Heinle) told Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) to fire Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope). Meanwhile, Sally bonded with Connor Newman (Judah Mackey) over Halloween, and Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) seemed to break at the sight. Elsewhere, Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) told Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) to butt out of her business and family affairs. Finally, Victoria offered Nate (Sean Dominic) Sally’s old job after he struck out on making amends with Devon Hamilton (Bryton James). Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what happened.
Young and the Restless: This Is Halloween
Connor and Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) were at Crimson Lights getting something to drink, waiting on Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) to see him in his Halloween costume. She was late…again. Connor revealed that his mom is late for everything, and he blamed it on Johnny Abbott (Paxton Mishkind). Sally saw them, but she hung back a bit.
Meanwhile, Chelsea was in her hotel room lying in bed, not doing anything, when the phone rang, and later she dragged herself out of bed with a sigh. Back at the coffee shop, Sally walked in full of excitement over Connor’s costume. They discussed the little boy’s plans, and then the talk turned to photos of the amazing costume. Connor wanted to leave, but Adam suggested that they go check on Chelsea, and the child worried that something had happened to his mom.
Adam made up an excuse that he needed to buy some toothbrushes to hand out for Halloween, and he asked Sally to stay with Connor while he did it. Connor tried to get Sally to leave, but she said she’d promised Adam that she would stay. He pointed out that Sally and Adam weren’t friends, but she told the little boy that they were still friendly. Connor relayed a story of a friend he’d fallen out with and then gotten closer to again.
Sally explained that she planned to be Irma Vep for her favorite holiday, but it was an anagram. She played a puzzle game with Connor so he could figure out what she’d really be. The answer was a vampire.
Billy and Lily saw Connor as they sat down on the patio. Lily gave Billy some advice about how the kids are at difficult ages, and she urged Billy to give them space. Talk turned to work, and Lily told Billy not to worry about the transition. He wanted to tell Jill Foster Abbott (Jess Walton), but Lily insisted she didn’t need him to walk her through it. She said she was fine without his help. She got called away to the office, and she told him not to come with her, so he stayed but didn’t look happy about it.
Adam showed up at Chelsea’s hotel room, and he asked her if she was okay. Chelsea blamed not showing up on feeling under the weather. Adam relayed that Connor was waiting to show her his costume, and Chelsea worried their son would think she forgot about him, and Adam relayed that Connor did feel that all the stuff with Johnny had taken her attention. She said she wouldn’t let it happen again. She asked for a minute to get ready before they left for Crimson Lights.
Adam and Chelsea walked in while Connor and Sally were having a great time talking about scary movies. Chelsea looked upset that her son bonded so easily with Sally. Chelsea said hello to the other woman, and then she tried to talk to Connor, but the little boy wasn’t too happy. Chelsea, Adam, and Connor left together, and Nick walked in and wanted to talk to Sally.
Y&R Recap: Loyalty
Earlier, Nick showed up at Victoria’s office, and she asked him to come in and shut the door. Victoria informed her brother that she’d made the choice to fire Sally and hopefully hire Nate to replace her at Newman Media. Nick accused Victoria of moving too quickly to fire Sally.
After Nick pointedly asked his sister, Victoria admitted that Nick’s relationship with Sally gave her pause. She worried it would impact Nick’s judgment and objectivity. Victoria told Nick he’d gone too easy on Sally for missing that executive meeting, but Victoria wasn’t convinced. She told her brother he was defending Sally due to his close personal relationship with her.
Even so, Nick continued to stick up for Sally. However, Victoria said she made a logical decision about Sally because she was worried about her loyalties and personal issues. Nick called her out, though, for trying to hire Nate after he’d turned on his family, which wasn’t loyal. Victoria said Nate kept her name out of it, which was loyal.
However, Nick reminded Victoria that Sally was loyal by not running the story about what really happened to Ashland Locke (Robert Newman). To him, that was peak loyalty. He accused Victoria of reacting due to her personal feelings about Sally. Victoria insisted that her instincts about Nate were spot on. She intended to get rid of Sally and Chloe Mitchell Fisher (Elizabeth Hendrickson) no matter how Nick felt, even if Nate wasn’t willing to join the team. Nick said he’d tell Sally the bad news.
Nate called Devon, and he left a conciliatory voicemail, reminding Devon that they’re family. Nate told his cousin that he knew they could figure things out because that’s what family does.
Billy showed up at Nate’s penthouse. Nate wondered if Billy was there to give him a hard time, but instead, Billy congratulated Nate for being a bigger screwup than him. However, Billy pointed out that while he was a legendary bad boy, Nate was still a good person and an upstanding citizen. He encouraged Nate to make things right with Devon and the rest of the family. Nate wasn’t quite sure why Billy cared, though.
Billy went on about how hard it was to work in the family business, especially because he tried to live up to everybody else’s ideas of what he should do. In contrast, though, Billy said that Nate was good at business and had good ideas. Billy reminded Nate that he and Devon had recovered from serious issues in the past, and he urged Nate to make things right with his cousin. Nate admitted he was blinded by power and made a mistake.
Nate admitted he’d reached out, but Devon wouldn’t take his calls. Billy encouraged Nate to earn Devon and Lily’s trust back. Nate’s phone rang, and it was Devon, so Billy told Nate to say, “I’m sorry.” Devon said he wanted to talk, and he showed up at Nate’s penthouse. Nate wanted to talk in a calm manner, but Devon wasn’t all that open to reconciling. Nate apologized.
Devon decided to talk, and he admitted that there might be some truth to what Nate had said about Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John). Devon admitted that even if Neil’s memory has a hold on him, he still tried to let Nate in. Devon did say that dealing with Neil’s loss affected every choice he made. He said he tried to give Nate the guidance that Neil would’ve given him, but Nate saw it as Devon trying to quash his dreams. Devon wasn’t willing to accept that Nate justified screwing over his family. Nate admitted he’d lost track of what was most important to him in favor of focusing on the short term.
Devon wanted to know who Nate was sharing information with, but Nate wasn’t willing to tell him. Nate suggested that they needed to be prepared for anything to protect the company. Devon insisted that Nate tell him the name of the Chief Operating Officer who was after Chancellor-Winters. Nate wouldn’t give him one, which Devon took to mean he was once again choosing an outsider over his family. Devon couldn’t see why Nate deserved a second chance, and he said he wouldn’t be able to get past what Nate did.
Billy walked into Lily’s office at Chancellor-Winters, and she was less than thrilled to see him there. Billy explained that he’d had a talk with Nate, and Lily was taken aback by Billy butting into the situation. Lily said Billy did it because he felt guilty about leaving. She flat out told Billy that her work and family drama wasn’t his to deal with anymore, and she said she’d figure it out on her own.
Nate went to Victoria’s office, and she cut right to the heart of the matter. She offered Nate the position of CEO of Newman Media.
