The Y&R recap for Wednesday, January 4, 2023, brings a demand for the truth but can the person handle it if she hears it?
Y&R Recap Highlights
Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) insisted on moving forward with her plan despite Jack Abbott’s (Peter Bergman) and Kyle Abbott’s (Michael Mealor) concerns. Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) wanted to know what was going on with her brother. Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier) tried to talk to Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) but failed, and she unloaded all her problems on Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei). Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John) saw Dominic, while Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) and Abby Newman Abbott (Melissa Ordway) heated up after he left. Let’s take a deeper look at what happened.
Y&R Recap: Acting
Diane told Jack that Jeremy couldn’t be trusted. However, Jack insisted that he didn’t feel comfortable with Diane making Jeremy feel that she wanted to reunite with him. However, Diane insisted that it’d work. She told Jack to keep his personal feelings out of things, though. He felt that he could, but then he freaked out when she said she was going back to her hotel room. Jack insisted that Diane stay at his house.
Diane remained the voice of reason, reminding Jack that Jeremy would figure out their plans. Jack said she should say that she moved in to ensure that Jack paid him the rest of the money. Diane wondered why it’d be feasible, considering their big fight at Crimson Lights. She insisted it wouldn’t work, though, and she said they were doing it her way.

Kyle joined them, and Diane revealed her plan to move back into her suite at The Grand Phoenix, which Kyle didn’t like. She did agree that she wouldn’t abandon her family just because she was working with Jeremy. Diane pointed out that there wasn’t anything she couldn’t do after she’d convinced everyone she was dead for all those years. Even so, Kyle thought it was a bad idea, and Jack agreed. Diane insisted that they both trust her.
Kyle pointed out to Jack that Phyllis was an added complication. Kyle worried about Summer being at odds with her mother, and Jack was sorry to hear that. Even so, he didn’t feel the least bit of sympathy for Phyllis.
Phyllis told Ashley how Summer blew her off to spend Christmas with Diane, and she also revealed that Diane never really left. Ashley updated Phyllis about how Jack has completely fallen for Diane’s plan. Phyllis declared that Diane’s plan was working after hearing how bad things are with Jack. Summer barged in, wanting to talk to her mom, but Phyllis said she was busy. Phyllis told Summer that things would have to wait, but Ashley left, telling her to call her later.
Summer begged her mom to listen to her. She said that she only wanted to keep her family safe, but Phyllis noted that she was family too. She took Summer to task for treating her so poorly. Phyllis explained how she’d do anything for Summer, and she said it was difficult to forgive Summer for believing Diane over her. Daniel walked up, offering drinks, but Phyllis said she had to go because she couldn’t talk about it anymore.
After their mom left, Daniel asked his sister what that was all about. Summer revealed that they’d been arguing about Diane, and she told her brother that Diane had hidden out at the Abbott cabin. Daniel pointed out that it did look like Summer had chosen Diane over Phyllis. Summer also tipped off her brother that Phyllis had brought Jeremy to town. However, Daniel pointed out that their mom had been right about Diane, and Summer admitted that she blamed Diane.
Summer admitted that Jeremy was a criminal and that it was only a matter of time before he tracked down Diane. Daniel thought that everybody was being too hard on Phyllis, and Summer agreed. She didn’t know how to tell Kyle that Diane had brought non-stop misery to their doorstep and complicated their marriage. Daniel had no idea that Summer was struggling so much, and she admitted she’d just been going along with whatever Kyle wanted.
Summer went off about how much of an actress she’d have to be. She said it was infuriating that Jack and Kyle blamed everything on Phyllis, and she said she’d even told Diane not to come between her and Kyle. Summer also pointed out that conversations with Diane were carefully curated. Daniel wondered how Kyle could forgive his mom for abandoning him as a child, but Summer said Kyle thought his mom had changed.
Summer cried that she had nobody to talk to, and she appreciated being able to be honest with her brother. Daniel pointed out that Summer was lying to Kyle, but she said she was protecting their marriage by not speaking up. However, she realized it was going to get worse, and she wondered how much longer it’d be before Kyle’s blindness about Diane came between them.
Young and the Restless: Moving Forward
At Devon’s, he and Abby enjoyed some time with Dominic as they waited for Tucker’s arrival. Later, Tucker enjoyed playing with Dominic. He thanked Abby for allowing him in her son’s life. Devon took the little boy upstairs for some rest, and Tucker and Abby had a discussion. She admitted that she wanted to get reacquainted with Tucker, and she wondered what he’d been up to. She suggested that Tucker must have business plans, but he said that his main goal was being with his family.
Abby also wanted to know how long Tucker planned to stay in town, but he didn’t have an answer. He noted that Abby didn’t trust him, and he admitted that she shouldn’t. Abby said it wasn’t about her trust or Tucker’s intentions. She just pointed out how much it took to run a big company like the one Tucker had. Of course, he said that was all in his past, but Abby wanted to know what changed.
He gave her the same song and dance about his life-changing experience in an Ashram. She wondered if it wasn’t as real as he said, and Tucker reassured her that it was. He also promised he’d never hurt Dominic, but Abby reminded him that he’d likely said the same thing about her mom. She didn’t believe him at all, and Abby said that Tucker’s return seemed awfully familiar. She pointed out all the times she’d walked in on Tucker cheating on Ashley and that she had alarm bells ringing when she saw him and Ashley together.
Tucker agreed that trust had to be earned, but he asked Abby to give him the gift of neutrality — especially since she and Devon would always be in each other’s lives due to their child. Tucker left, and Devon apologized for leaving Abby alone with Tucker for so long, but she said they’d had an honest conversation. Devon wanted to know what they’d discussed.
Abby said Tucker pointed out that she and Devon would always be connected. She also told Devon that she wouldn’t mind if Dominic spent more time with his grandfather, which Devon appreciated. Devon wanted to know how she was doing otherwise, and Abby mentioned how uncomplicated and right things felt when they were together, and Devon admitted that he felt the same way. They kissed. Devon asked her to stay, and they made love.
Y&R Recap: Scheming
At Diane’s suite, somebody knocked on her door. It was Tucker pretending to be Jeremy for a moment, and Diane didn’t appreciate it. She demanded to know why Tucker was there, and he said he needed to know when Jeremy left. Diane wanted to know why, and Tucker said that he had big plans and that Jeremy could complicate them.
Tucker congratulated Diane on the progress she’d made with Jack. She took him to task, blaming him for Jeremy showing up in Genoa City. She said she was checking back into The Grand Phoenix. Diane said she’d lost Jack, but Tucker didn’t believe it. He left after wishing her luck.
Later at Crimson Lights, Tucker walked in, and he overheard Phyllis leaving Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) a message. She asked her friend to call her back — or better yet, move back — then she hung up. Tucker said it sounded like Phyllis needed somebody to talk to, but Phyllis said she was impervious to his charms and that she didn’t need him as a friend. Tucker said they didn’t have to be friends to have a mutually beneficial relationship.
Diane returned to the Abbott mansion and told Kyle and Jack she’d unpacked at the hotel. Kyle was happy to see her mom. After he left to check on his son, Jack urged Diane to rely on him. He promised that together they’d find a way to get Jeremy out of Diane’s life for good. Diane kissed Jack on the cheek, and Ashley walked in, demanding to know what was going on.
