The Y&R recap for Friday, December 23, 2022, brings a surprising Christmas miracle for newlyweds hopeful to become mothers in Genoa City.
Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case), Noah Newman (Rory Gibson), Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow), Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes), and Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) gathered to enjoy some Christmas Eve family time before Mariah and Tessa exchanged gifts. Now, let’s take a deeper dive into what happened.
Noah put together a Christmas Eve gathering for his family at Glam Club. Sharon, Tessa, Mariah, and Nick joined him, and they toasted Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso). They also missed Faith Newman (Reylynn Caster). They talked about how great it is to see Christmas through the eyes of a child, and Nick was lucky to still have Christian at home.
Everybody discussed their Christmas plans, and Tessa had a surprise for Mariah. Tessa booked a suite for them at The Grand Phoenix for their first Christmas as a married couple. The newlyweds went downstairs and cozied up in fluffy white robes, relaxing together. Mariah gave Tessa a special ornament to commemorate their first Christmas as wife and wife, and Tessa suggested they make it a tradition — hoping that next year they’d have one that says “baby’s first Christmas.” They dreamed about all the love their big family would give their child.
They woke up together in bed for their first Christmas morning as a married couple. Mariah felt like she got run over by a reindeer while Tessa glowed with the holiday spirit. Tessa looked out the window to a beautiful snowfall — a white Christmas! Mariah wanted to rush off to go help Sharon at Crimson Lights. They prepared to make deliveries as Christmas Elves.
They showed up at the coffee shop, and Noah gave them grief for being late. Sharon and Noah got them focused, and he agreed to make deliveries while they finished packaging all the boxes. A pregnant woman named Sonia, who’d had a car accident, walked into the closed shop. She needed help, so they offered her a seat, and Tessa used her phone to call for help.
Sharon got her some food, and she talked with Mariah and Tessa. Sonia admitted she’d been driving away from her family, and they offered her empathy. Sonia recognized Tessa’s music. She also said she hadn’t planned to become a mother at 22, but she still needed to finish college in the spring. Even so, Sonia didn’t know if she could be the mom her baby deserved. They offered her support and encouragement.
Sonia went to use the bathroom, but she came back, saying her water broke. The roads were such a mess that EMTs couldn’t get to Crimson Lights quickly. Sharon offered to walk with her as she labored. Mariah and Tessa talked about when Mariah went into labor with Dominic. She relived how scary and terrifying it had been.
Mariah took a turn walking with Sonia too, and she told Sonia about her experience as a surrogate with Dominic. The laboring mother-to-be asked Mariah and Tessa about their family plans. Then, her labor got worse, and Sharon called Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) for help. The doctor showed up, and Sonia said she was 37 weeks along. Elena slowly talked her through the labor, and ultimately the baby — a girl — was born just as the ambulance arrived.
Before she went to the hospital, Sonia said that the universe brought her to Tessa and Mariah, and she told them that they’d make incredible mothers. Sonia said she hoped she’d also be a good mother.
Back in the hotel room, Tessa woke up as Mariah sat on the bed pensively. She told Mariah that she’d had an intense dream, and they hugged. It seemed the whole thing was something that happened as they dreamed. It turned out that both Mariah and Tessa had the same dream, which Tessa felt showed how close they were. They were emotionally drained from the dream.
As they talked, Mariah worried that the young mother choosing to keep her child was an omen that they wouldn’t get the baby they wanted. Tessa admitted that it was disheartening too, but she reminded Mariah that the dream was just a manifestation of their hopes and fears. She also said that they got to feel the joy of helping bring a new life into the world, affirming they’d be great moms. Tessa declared that they had to keep the faith even when they faced setbacks.
They really showed up at Crimson Lights to help Sharon and Noah make the Christmas deliveries. Sharon noticed that both women seemed down, but Mariah remained evasive. Then, they got a text from their potential birth mother, who’d sent a sonogram. She included a message that said, “we can’t wait to meet you,” which made them cry and laugh.
