The Y&R recap for Tuesday, December 20, 2022, brings suspicions, arguments, clashes, surprises, and so much more for the residents of Genoa City.
Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) let Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) have it while Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier) and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) made plans for Christmas. Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) came home, and Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) tried to surprise him, but he’d already had lunch with Audra Charles (Zuyleka Silver). Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John) sparred with Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case), and Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) and Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) asked Johnny Abbott (Paxton Mishkind) a big question. Now, let’s dig deeper into what happened.
Ashley and Jack clashed over Ashley’s role in running Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) out of town. However, Ashley didn’t buy that Kyle had left the same day his mom left, and she told Jack that she realized Diane hadn’t really left. Jack continued insisting that Diane was scared of Jeremy Stark (James Hyde), but Ashley didn’t buy it. Jack insisted that Ashley apologize for going too far, but Ashley declared she didn’t go too far.
Ashley reminded Jack that Diane chose not to return for years, and she said everything she did was to protect Kyle and Jack from Diane. She accused her brother of having poor judgment. Jack was appalled by Ashley’s lack of compassion, so he left in a huff.
Summer and Kyle were at the office, and he was working hard to tie up loose ends to send everybody home early for the holiday. Summer took Kyle to Jack’s office, and she had a proposal for him — spending the holidays together as a family. She went on about how important it would be to spend Christmas together.
Kyle reluctantly agreed to spend the morning with Summer and their son, and then he’d go to the cabin, but Summer said no. Instead, she suggested that they all three go to the cabin to spend Christmas with Diane. Kyle pointed out all the difficulties with taking Harrison to the cabin without blowing Diane’s cover. They decided to get Harrison to keep a secret about seeing Diane. Kyle eventually agreed.
He wanted to ensure that Jeremy was distracted, though. Summer seemed surprised that Kyle thought the man was watching them that closely, and she pointed out that Jeremy could follow Kyle even if he went alone. Jack showed up, and they told him how sad they were that they would not be able to go to the cabin to spend time with Diane, but Jack told them he’d deal with Jeremy.
Victoria was at work at Newman Enterprises, and Billy showed up. He wanted to give her a heads-up about Chelsea Lawson’s (Melissa Claire Egan) Christmas gift for Johnny Abbott. However, Victoria wasn’t at all willing to entertain it. Billy wasn’t happy about that. After a discussion, he doubled down on the topic and said he thought Chelsea should give Johnny the gift.
Billy wanted to let Johnny spend time alone with Chelsea and Connor Newman (Judah Mackey), and Victoria demanded that they set boundaries before it was too late. Billy wondered what was at stake, though. He pointed out that a kid having more people to love isn’t a negative. Victoria just wanted Johnny to be able to be a kid without worrying about adult-level problems. Billy vouched for Chelsea, but Victoria worried that Johnny was doing everything he was doing to try to help Chelsea feel better. Billy calmly suggested that they ask Johnny what he wanted.
They ended up taking Johnny to Crimson Lights, and he worried that they were upset about the length of his Christmas list. They asked Johnny if he wanted the present Chelsea had for him. Johnny seemed surprised that Chelsea was thinking of him enough to get him something. Johnny thought it sounded like fun to hang out with Connor and Chelsea, and Victoria didn’t seem thrilled. They let Johnny know that he didn’t have to be polite about things, and Johnny said he didn’t have to go if they didn’t want him to. He told Victoria that he wouldn’t go if it upset her, but Victoria said it was fine.
Billy called to see if Chelsea could meet them then, and Johnny worried because he didn’t have a gift for Connor or Chelsea. As Billy and Johnny discussed what Chelsea liked, Victoria looked forlorn.
Tucker showed up at Crimson Lights, and he saw Sharon for the first time since his return. She had plenty of snarkiness for him. Tucker noted what a shame it was that Sharon was wasting her time running a coffee house. However, she extolled the virtues of it, and he noted that Ashley had warmed up there with him recently. Sharon didn’t love the idea of Tucker reeling Ashley back in, but he insisted he was a changed man. Even so, Sharon didn’t find that plausible.
Sharon noted that she’d become a therapist, and she analyzed Tucker, telling him there wasn’t any way he was truly a changed man. Sharon called him out on everything. Even so, Tucker admitted he dreamed of reuniting with Ashley. Sharon asked if Ashley had given him any inkling that she wanted to reunite, and he said he was an optimist. Tucker vowed to prove Sharon and all the other doubters wrong.
Elena showed up at home, and she was surprised to see Nate already back from his business trip. He reported that he got the star treatment in Los Angeles and felt gratified by how much everybody trusted him. Nate felt like he’d finally found his place. Elena was exhausted, though, after covering for a doctor overnight, so she went to sleep.
Nate showed up at Crimson Lights, and Audra was there, so they flirtily chatted about Nate’s new job at Newman Media. Again, Nate extolled his rock star status at his new job. As they talked, Audra pointed out that things went off the rails for Nate at Chancellor-Winters because he’d combined family and business. As she talked with Nate about possibly staying in Genoa City, Audra got a text from Tucker to meet in his suite ASAP. Nate admitted he hoped Audra would stay.
At his suite, Tucker welcomed Audra, complimenting her on her timeliness. He instantly knew Audra was distracted, but she changed the subject. Tucker revealed that he’d asked Ashley to go out on her own and leave Jabot. Audra didn’t think Ashley would be willing to do that, but Tucker said Ashley hadn’t exactly turned him down. Audra still felt skeptical.
She called Tucker out for not knowing what he wanted. She wondered where she fit in his plans. Audra suggested that she should make her own plans, and Tucker agreed. He helped her put on her coat and began kissing her neck. She called him insufferable, and they kissed more. Clothes came off, but a knock on the door interrupted — it was Ashley. He asked an angry Audra to hide, and he answered the door. A seemingly amused Ashley wondered if she’d caught him at a bad time.
Nate went to work, and Elena surprised him there with a welcome-home lunch to celebrate his success. It was just too bad that Nate had already eaten — with Audra. Elena thought it was strange, given Audra’s job at Chancellor-Winters. Elena noted that there was something about Audra that didn’t sit right with her. She said Audra always seemed to be working an angle, and Elena declared she didn’t trust Audra.
