The Young and the Restless recap for Wednesday, July 5, 2023, brings Summer and Kyle sitting down with their son and letting him know they love him but they won’t be living together anymore.
Also in this episode, Kyle ended up without a job (which Audra found utterly interesting), Summer gave her soon-to-be ex-mother-in-law a dressing down, Lily was fascinated to learn her cousin’s gossip, Chance and Abby tried being friends, and Devon and Lily both said yes to big moves. Now let’s dig a little deeper into this episode.
At Jabot, Jack (Peter Bergman) dropped the bomb on Kyle (Michael Mealor) that he fears he and Summer won’t be able to work together now so he wants Kyle to be the one to step away. Kyle was furious and accused his father of doing this to manipulate a reconciliation. He said he could have any job he wants at Jabot, just leave Marchetti. Kyle was furious his father doesn’t think they could be professional. Kyle left to think about it.

At the Abbott mansion, Diane (Susan Walters) ran into Summer (Allison Lanier) and offered to help her with Kyle but since she botched her previous attempt, Summer turned her offer down. Diane apologized but Summer blamed her for her mom and her marriage’s issues, adding Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) was right that she destroys everything she touches.
Summer brought down two suitcases and then thought about better times but was interrupted by a returned Kyle. He was stunned she was ready to leave already but then told her about his conversation with his father. He realized Jack was right — they shouldn’t inflict their issues on other people, and she could keep her job. She said there was only one thing left to do and called Harrison (Kellen Enriquez) down and broke the news to him. After, Summer left and Kyle returned to the office. Diane was with Jack and he updated them both. He also turned down another position at Jabot, shocking Jack.
At the penthouse, Devon (Bryton James) realized that Abby (Melissa Ordway) was seriously considering Chance’s offer for them to move into the Chancellor mansion. She was but acknowledged it’s a bigger deal for him since this is his place. Devon liked the idea of keeping Katherine’s legacy alive in yet another way. They realized they had their answer.
At Society, Lily (Christel Khalil) spied Audra (Zuleyka Silver) saying goodbye to someone, and Audra bragged to Lily that yes, her suspicions are correct — she just made a deal with the head of Crawford Pictures for Newman Media. Lily was surprised Nate (Sean Dominic) wouldn’t have sealed the deal so Audra lets her know she’s the one in charge now.
Before she could explain, Lily jumped to conclusions about backstabbing, but Nate arrived and set her straight. Lily wanted a moment alone with her cousin, but Audra got in some parting shots for Lily having fired her. Once alone, Lily asked how Nate was and he eventually admitted he was with Victoria (Amelia Heinle) now, shocking Lily. She’d been set to warn him, but she realized, and not in a good way, that he was doing fine. After she left, Audra told Nate she hoped he wouldn’t let his cousin influence him. She also said she was working on a side deal. Once she was alone, Kyle joined her after receiving her text. He told her about Summer moving out and his being unemployed. She found that very interesting.
Lily headed to Devon’s after he contacted her and she updated him on Nate’s love life. He knew but didn’t want to gossip. Lily wanted to believe Nate was a good person but he keeps proving her wrong. Devon surprised Lily when he asked if it would bother her to have Nate as her neighbor — he offered her the penthouse and he filled her in on their upcoming move.
Abby met up with Chance (Conner Floyd) to make sure he hadn’t changed his mind and offered to listen if he wanted to tell her how he really feels. Chance insisted he’s in a good place now and asked if they could be friends — for Dominic’s sake, which Abby appreciated. Chance said he’d be out by the end of the week. Abby returned to the penthouse as Lily decided she would take it. After Lily left, Abby wondered if Devon was having second thoughts. He said no, but was remembering all the good times there.
At the GCAC, Chance ran into Summer and hoped it didn’t mean what he thought but she said it did. She’s moved out. Chance said if she needs someone to talk to, he’s there.
