The Young and the Restless recap for Thursday sees Adam Newman eavesdropping and learning a bit more about Kyle Abbott colluding with Victor Newman, and Jack was mad.

Young and the Restless Recap Highlights

Plus, Diane showed she might have some bigger aspirations than working in public relations, Victoria warned Billy about how his choices affected his family, Chelsea stood up for herself with Adam (Mark Grossman), and Victor made plans despite his daughter’s reservations. Now let’s dig deeper into what went down.

Young and the Restless Recap: Adam Newman Eavesdrops

At the Abbott mansion, Jack (Peter Bergman) and Kyle had yet another conversation about Diane (Susan Walters). Jack was happy, though, and he wasn’t about to hide it. Kyle had reservations but was cautiously optimistic about it all. Kyle rushed off to work without his phone, and Jack noticed it when he got a text.

“Thanks for your help with the Adam matter,” read Victor’s text.

That infuriated Jack.

Diane Jenkins daydreams about more.

At Jabot, Diane sat down at Jack’s desk, and Kyle walked in, wondering what his mom was doing. Did she want to be the boss? No way, because that job was beyond her reach. Diane noted that she wanted to keep her professional and personal life separate. Of course, that didn’t stop her from asking for a promotion, which Kyle advised her to work hard for.

What did Diane have in mind? Well, Marchetti Home, given her home staging as a realtor in Los Angeles. She wanted to fill Phyllis’s giant shoes. Kyle (Michael Mealor) expressed his surprise that Diane wanted Phyllis’s old job, but Kyle said Phyllis would lose her mind if Diane got that job. She insisted that she was supremely qualified for the job, and she wanted to help him realize his dream.

Why did Diane want this job now, though? Diane said it was so she could work even closer with the whole Abbott family — she wanted to belong. Kyle seemed to understand what she meant. Working with family made great sense to Diane, and Kyle let her know that there were other ways to work with family without running a whole division of the company. Kyle did point out that he went lots of time without a mother, which took the wind out of her sails. Ultimately, Kyle promised to talk to Summer about it.

Jack walked in, surprised to see them there. Kyle was missing his phone, and Jack handed it off to him. He stepped out to return Summer’s phone, and Diane noted Jack wasn’t okay. However, it wasn’t about Kyle’s acceptance of their relationship. Jack dropped the bombshell that Kyle was more involved in Victor’s plan than he’d let on. Jack was furious Kyle had lied to him — nothing good could come of Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Victor colluding. He updated Diane on Kyle and Victor’s close past.

Out in the lobby, Kyle talked to Summer on the phone about Diane’s potential promotion. He promised they would talk about it before he did anything.

Kyle returned, and Diane made her exit. He realized his dad was mad, and Jack let Kyle know that he’d realized Kyle had lied about his involvement with Victor. Jack demanded to know everything. As they spoke, Adam listened outside the door. Inside, Kyle tried to pretend that Victor sent the message to the wrong person, but Jack kept pushing until finally, Kyle yelled that Adam didn’t belong at Jabot.

Young and the Restless: An Ode To Billy Abbott

Connor (Judah Mackey), Adam (Mark Grossman), and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) gathered Connor’s school things. The boy declared his parents the best in the whole world. The mood was light, and Connor mentioned Chelsea’s dinner with Billy as the reason Chelsea was happy. He forgot part of his homework, and Adam asked about Chelsea’s date with Billy.

Adam Newman details all of Billy Abbott’s faults to Chelsea Lawson.

Chelsea denied she was on a date, and Adam asked what it was like to go out in the world. She said that she felt confident and strong and had friends. Even so, Adam didn’t advise Chelsea to be friends with Billy — he was looking out for her — naturally. Adam listed all of Billy’s faults until Chelsea demanded he that he stop. After all, it wasn’t about Adam, and Chelsea didn’t need his permission or approval. Adam needed to get over his hatred for Billy.

Adam couldn’t even think of one reason why he should get over his hatred of Billy, but Chelsea had two — her and Connor. Adam promised not to bring up Billy being Chelsea’s special friend again, but he did threaten if Billy hurt her, he’d never let it go. Chelsea advised Adam to realize it was her life.

Billy (Jason Thompson) and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) ran into each other at Crimson Lights. She was happy to see him, and she wanted to talk about Lily. Billy wasn’t too thrilled to talk about his breakup. Victoria noted that Lily was good for Billy, but she admitted that she was jealous that Lily got the good Billy that he never was for her.

Victoria Newman tells Billy Abbott their daughter is jealous of his time with Connor and Johnny.

Billy admitted that he’d never been the man Victoria needed. They discussed their recent past, and he brought up Victoria’s mistake with Ashland Locke. Billy said he’d help the kids through their transition with Lily just like she’d helped their kids after Ashland.

The topic of Chelsea came up, and Billy denied that she had anything to do with his breakup with Lily. Victoria noted that he’d been Chelsea’s hero, and he’d gotten the chance to save somebody who needed him. Even so, Victoria urged him to take his time. She also pointed out that Katie had been jealous of Johnny and Billy spending so much time with Chelsea and Connor, and Billy thanked her.

Adam and Connor walked into the patio at Crimson Lights, and they talked about fixing and dealing with complicated stuff. Connor admitted that he was glad to see Chelsea happier with Billy and Johnny around more often, and Adam thought it was fantastic. Even so, Adam reminded Connor that he was always there to listen.

Billy walked in and greeted Connor. Adam shooed his son away, and Billy immediately called out Adam. However, Adam didn’t want to talk about Chelsea and Billy going out. Instead, Adam asked to take Connor and Johnny out for a day of fun, which Billy wasn’t thrilled about.

Chelsea walked in, and she seemed surprised that Adam hadn’t gone off about her and Billy’s dinner out. She warned Billy that Adam wasn’t entirely thrilled. Chelsea realized she was dealing with big issues, and there was no reason to worry about what people thought about them dating or not. Billy and Chelsea flirted a bit as friends.

Young and the Restless Recap: Victor Newman Takes Charge

At Newman Enterprises, Victor (Eric Braeden) finished a phone call as Victoria walked in. She seemed taken aback to see her dad behind her desk taking calls. He’d been trying to buy out Tucker’s debt below face value, but Victoria thought it’d be faster just to pay the going rate. Victor admired Victoria’s decisiveness. Talk turned to Adam working at Jabot.

Victor Newman tells Victoria about his plans for Adam.

“Imagine what we could all accomplish around here if Adam applied his business acumen and intelligence to our company,” Victor said.

Victoria asked her dad to come right out and tell her what his plans for his prodigal son were. She wasn’t feeling it…surprise, surprise. Victoria said Victor was simply wishful thinking, and she worried he’d be badly hurt. Victor reminded his daughter that he could take care of himself. She urged her dad not to put himself in a situation where Adam takes his failures out on him.

Victoria reminded her dad that he can’t make Adam want something that he doesn’t want. He only wanted Adam in the family, but Victoria pointed out that her brother wanted to be the only Newman, which is why he was such a problem. Victor said that Adam was his son, and he couldn’t shut him out.
