On The Young and the Restless, Nicholas Newman believed that Ashland Locke posed a real and present danger to Nick’s sister, Victoria Newman. So Nick punched Ashland.
Victoria’s (Amelia Heinle) ex-husband fell back, hit his head, and a few hours later, was found dead behind the wheel of his car in the Genoa City river. The two events may be connected. They may not be. But was Nicholas (Joshua Morrow) justified in striking out like that?
Nick was just protecting Victoria, a majority 78% of you defend. The guy was making menacing sounds and menacing faces, and Nick is Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) son. He was raised to stand up for his family at all costs, which often means striking first and asking questions later. As Victoria’s brother, Nick is always in the right when it comes to deciding what’s best for her. As long as Victor isn’t around.
It’s a much smaller 17% of the audience that saw anger — not self-defense — in Nick’s outburst. Nick has had it in for Ashland (Robert Newman) ever since he tried to stop Victoria and Ashland’s wedding — only to be excoriated by Victor, who insisted he’d checked Ashland out completely and trusted him implicitly…something Victor is now gaslighting us into believing never happened. Nick’s been waiting to punch the man’s lights out for over a year now. Victoria was just an excuse.
And then there are the 5% who honestly have no idea what is going on in this story. Was Ashland really sick? Was he ever in love with Victoria? Was he just getting revenge on Victor for threatening to let him die? Why did anyone in this story do anything? And if we don’t know why they did it, how can we possibly hazard to guess what Nick had in mind?
