On The Young and the Restless, Allie Nguyen changed her whole life after finding out that she’s related to the Genoa City Abbotts. Off-screen, her portrayer, Kelsey Wang, hasn’t done anything quite like that, but she recently spoke out about AAPI Heritage Month and finding ways to express her voice, relating it to her character.
The actress posted a beautiful photo of herself on Instagram. However, it was the caption where she expressed her feelings. She wrote, “June 1! Yesterday was the last day of AAPI Heritage Month.
“There was a time growing up when I really struggled with being Asian American. I felt so different and wanted to hide my culture and who I was. I wanted so badly to JUST BELONG.
“Today, I know my differences make me who I am & I am on a journey every day to express my voice more and more,” she continued. “I am not there yet, but I am proud to have infused what I can and what I know into Allie so far.
“For everyone who has reached out in the past few months, thank you for all your support,” she said toward the end. “It means the world to me.”
