Viewers Left Hanging On Paramount+ After Young and the Restless Episodes Disappear

Paramount explained that only two episodes are now available on its streaming service due to licensing issues regarding previous seasons.

All four existing soap operas make their new episodes available on their parent streaming platforms. General Hospital is on Hulu, but new episodes only last 11 days. Peacock plays a new episode of Days of Our Lives every morning and keeps the current season and last season active. Paramount+ has a smattering of the most recent The Bold and the Beautiful episodes, and sadly for fans of The Young and the Restless, there are currently only two episodes available.

License Restricted

Viewers tuning in to catch up on Y&R were in for a shock on October 3 upon seeing only that day’s episode and the one from October 4 available. Fans who may have fallen behind are now unable to catch up. The Paramount+ Help page on X, formerly Twitter, posted the reason: “Trying to stream The Young and the Restless? Heads up that after a new season begins, episodes from the previous season are removed due to licensing restrictions. You can still catch all the new episodes from the current season on Paramount+.”

When one viewer replied that there weren’t any episodes available when they clicked the link, the streaming service responded by reiterating the main post and adding the clarification, “Once a new season of this show begins, our rights to the previous season changes, and some or all episodes are removed. We’re always working to expand our content to make more seasons and episodes available, and we appreciate your viewership!”

Licensing, Schmicensing

One really angry viewer exemplified the opinion of many with the response, “Really stinks that this happens without more warning! I was traveling for business, got to the episode where Heather is walking in on Sharon. Not happy at all!!😡 Was going to spend the weekend binge watching. I had no issues with the season change w/B&B, and there was a warning!” Of course, they got the same exact response as the previous viewer.

Another disgruntled viewer posted, “I am trying to watch today’s episode 10/4/24 I was gone earlier today when it was on TV now when I try to watch it, it says I can’t because of the licensing issue. If I am not able to watch this at night then I will quit watching it because I will never keep up with the story.” Arguing that other shows have multiple seasons on streaming services, one fan laid down the gauntlet with, “I’m canceling my subscription right now.”

And another livid fan excoriated CBS with: “You changed seasons mid-week!!! 10/02 wasn’t even on app for 24hrs! A WARNING IN THE APP would have been proper. For some of us, it’s the only way we can watch CBS. You should give us the week to finish this week’s episodes. B&B has the last week of prior season, Y&R should too!” (Learn about Y&R’s history.)
