The protests across American cities over the death of George Floyd continue and The Young and the Restless star Loren Lott has been out there in Los Angeles for days fighting for the Black Lives Matter cause and for racial justice.
Loren Lott Protests
The actress, who played Devon’s sister Ana Hamilton on YR from 2018-2019, has been chronicling her experiences on Instagram and in one Instagram story posted a video of her and her friend running from what seems to be rubber bullets shot by police officers.
The Instagram video made it to Twitter via WrecklessLove and shows a horrifying scene on what appears to be The Hollywood Walk of Fame. Lott is screaming “They’re just shooting at us” and that “we gotta go.” (You can see the incident in a video at the bottom of this page.)
She explained the incident in another post she edited, saying: “RIGHT AFTER I POSTED THIS THE POLICE SHOT INTO A CROWD OUTSIDE OF THE RESTAURANT I HAD JUST LEFT. WE ALL RAN FROM THE GUNSHOTS! WE WERE PEACEFUL! IM CONFUSED.”
She also explains that these peaceful protests have been turning violent and has condemned the violence and rioting.
Despite all that, Lott has still called for police officers to protest with them and makes a heartfelt plea in one Instagram post.
“Hey non-prejudice cops! Protest with us. Kneel with us! Pray with us! This is already happening and it’s beautiful! We don’t want the violence either! We don’t want the looting either!
“I know a lot of you did not sign up to fight against people crying for justice for a death and protection. I know a lot of you are hurting too and wish the system were just. I know a lot of you are tired of watching colleagues be racist and make dangerous statements.
“Under all that gear you are a person. Kneel with us, pray with us, march with us. Don’t pull out your batons. Imagine how we would react. How u can help peaceful protests remain peaceful. No tear gas needed. No shooting needed! Let’s get Justice for George Floyd and all the lives who didn’t get it! And let’s do it together.”
Those words were accompanied by a video showing a police officer kneeling with protestors and hugging a young woman to the sound of cheers as people calling for justice praised solidarity. Lott also attended one protest with former YR co-stars Bryton James and Brytni Sarpy (Devon and Elena). The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
