Over the last week — and especially over this past weekend — Americans watched a country cry out over the murder of an African-American man by a Minnesota police officer. Peaceful protests broke out from sea to shining sea but by night violence came. Our favorite soap stars watched with all of us and many reflected on what they saw, while others reflected on their own experiences as Americans.

A prayer for America, as she trembles in contagion, rage and sorrow. (1) The murder of George Floyd was the crack in the social compact that finally broke the dam. (2) Derek Chauvin, nineteen times cited for bad behavior in nineteen years on the force but still working, leaned his knees into Floyd’s body –– one on his back, one on his neck –– for nine minutes, as the helpless man pled for his life. The officer did not disengage until Floyd had been dead for three minutes, all the while maintaining an oddly affectless countenance. (3) The Barclay Center in Brooklyn. (4) The unpaid debts of history; Sitting Bull’s jaw beside that of a slave. America came into being on the attempted genocide of one race and the enslavement of another.(5) As life on the blighted streets of bank-redlined holding pens called ghettoes –– and the disparity between white and black sentences for drug possession will attest –– this sign is the truth. (6) Protester at the Unite the Right Rally in Charlottesville, August 2017 (7) The broken, tortured body of a young boy. (8) The institutionalized face of hate. (9) Ahmaud Aubrey in February in Georgia, ambushed while out for his daily jog, takes the very last stride of his life as he collapses to the asphault. Ahmaud had just absorbed three shotgun blasts, the last two to his chest, delivered by the white son of the white former cop who had mistaken him for someone else, stalked him, and killed him. The police called it justifiable homicide for two and a half months. Then video surfaced. (10) A man runs through a burning Minneapolis with Old Glory in its properly inverted position. If this moment in our history is not a reckoning, then nothing ever will be. Fight for the right to vote by mail.

Today, I got to help lift a strong, united voice for fair, equal and swift justice by way of peaceful protest. It is, of course, beyond infuriating that things have devolved to such but I have to admit that my heart was warmed by the courage and passion of the younger generation, in regards to the overall desire for justice in a better tomorrow and in particular my non Black Sisters and Brothers. The young protestor “front persons”, were impressively organized and bravely persuasive young people of Color. After an uncomfortable mid street standoff, one officer (not pictured) not only took a knee with us in full riot gear but went as far as to hug several, pained citizens. Through meaningful communication they were able to avoid arrests and defuse a powder-keg scenario. My, 5, almost 6 hour involvement was unmistakably peaceful. It’s imperative that the media balances their coverage and shows the peaceful protests with equal energy! I believe doing so would go a long way in changing perceptions, minds then laws and lives. The catharsis of, “walk it like I talk it,” left my soul distended with gratitude . There is, regrettably and undeniably, a whole lot of unfair happening outside theses days, but, I ask…when exactly in America, hasn’t there been?!…✊🏾 – #justiceforgeorgefloyd #georgefloyd #blacklivesmatter #please #endpolicebrutality #stopinjustice #liveinlove #originalsin #symptoms #handsupdontshoot #thisisamerica

I’ve spent the past few days trying to allow myself to understand what I’m feeling. My heart is heavy, I am truly disappointed and heartbroken. . . Heartbroken that we are still dealing with Racism, Injustice and Police Brutality against our Black community and as a Black Woman I am deeply hurt and saddened by this. How is this still happening?!? The fact that we are stilling living in a world where we are treated differently based on the color of our skin is not right. WE ARE ALL HUMAN. . . Enough Is Enough. This has to STOP and We must do better, We Have To Do Better. Now is not the time to sit back and watch our broken system from a far because you don’t want to deal with it or it makes you uncomfortable. The only way for us to move forward, to move forward in peace, is to first acknowledge and understand that there is a mistreatment and then we must “ ALL” the entire Human Race, Black, White, Brown, UNIT TOGETHER. To all the peaceful protesters and everyone using their VOICE Thank You. Let’s all find empathy, love and compassion in our hearts during this time. All my love. ♥️🙏🏽 xx #enoughisenough #leadwithlove #justiceforgeorgefloyd #justiceforbreonnataylor #justiceforahmaud
