We’re not sure if The Young and the Restless wrote in a Sharon and Nick kiss this week because their respective portrayers, Sharon Case and Joshua Morrow, are celebrating 30 years in Genoa City or not. It doesn’t truly matter. We’re just glad that the show is finally addressing the couple’s long-running romance.

Let the End Game Begin

While the divorced duo Sharon and Nick enjoyed popularity with other romantic partners, many fans believed that the pair would eventually get back together. Even if they don’t, Nick and Sharon will always care about one another. He showed up at her door this week, expressing concern for her welfare.

Clearly, the love Nick has for Sharon is still there. And she knows it. “Lucky me,” Sharon said when Nick said he had come over to talk to her — not their daughter Faith (Reylynn Caster).

Over a series of scenes, Nick and Sharon relived their history, talking about their late daughter Cassie and their family. Sharon admitted that some of her behavior had been off, but she was confident that she’d be back to her old self once her meds were straightened out. “It’s nice to see that you care,” Sharon told her ex.

Nick told Sharon he’d be there for her when traumatic memories from their hardships come flooding back. Sharon queried how Nick could be all these wonderful things to her — including fun — all at once. (Read our interview with Case about her thoughts on Nick/Sharon reuniting here.)

Phyllis has always been a source of contention between Sharon and Nick, but Sharon deftly got her points across to her ex about his ex without delving into histrionics. These Nick/Sharon scenes reminded us how these two can be around each other with such ease — despite having lots of drama between them.

“We really have weathered a lot of storms together, haven’t we?” Sharon shared with, gently adding that in the middle of most of them was “Hurricane Phyllis.”

Less capable actors might have had their characters delve into histrionics once the name of a romantic foil was introduced into the conversation. Case and Morrow are too talented to do that.

Nick and Sharon continued to reminisce about their late daughter, Cassie. “I’m always going to worry about you,” Nick said. “That’s kind of my thing.”

Having had one of the sweetest scenes they’ve shared in a long time, Nick left for Newman Enterprises for a family meeting. Next, Sharon returned to her work and answered another knock at her door. It was Nick. Sharon asked him if he’d forgotten something, and then Nick romantically grabbed his ex by the back of her neck and kissed her. Swoon!

How could he not have come back after sharing such verbal intimacy with his former wife? Well, actually, he didn’t. The kiss was apparently all in Sharon’s mind. But the stage has been set for the real thing to occur.

Soaps are all about romance, and sadly, that seems to have been forgotten by some at certain times. Y&R has set the stage for Nick and Sharon to get back together. How lucky are we?
