The Young and the Restless star Sharon Case is nominated for Lead Actress at this year’s 52nd Daytime Emmy Awards. She had plenty of content to share from 2024, but she could only shorten it down to a few short minutes, which wasn’t easy.

Key Takeaways

  • This is the second time that Sharon Case has been nominated for Lead Actress.
  • Case shared her process in selecting her Daytime Emmy reel.
  • Sharon’s core storyline in 2024 made it hard for her to choose scenes for the Daytime Emmys nomination.

Tackling a Tough Decision

Case had an overarching storyline in 2024 that put her at the forefront of Y&R. Her character, Sharon, struggled with her mental health. She initially wrote it off as a bipolar episode, but then she experienced blackouts and hallucinations. This caused her to spiral mentally and emotionally.

Sharon thought Cameron Kirsten (Linden Ashby) had come back from the dead and was dictating every decision in her life. In reality, Cameron was just a figment of her imagination who encouraged her grudge against Daniel (Michael Graziadei). As a result, she sought revenge for the way he had treated her daughter.

Sharon also believed that she killed Heather (Vail Bloom) and dumped her body in the river. Not only did she have to prove her innocence and regain control of reality, but she also struggled with the guilt of possibly committing a crime.

Case’s complex performance led to her nomination for the Lead Actress award. In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Case explained how she had to choose the gripping material for her Daytime Emmy reel submission.

The actress initially hoped to submit those scenes. However, they’re only given “[a maximum] of 15 minutes.” So, Case had to get creative and go in a different direction. “I’m happy with it, but it was a difficult choice,” she explained.

Cutting It Down

Thankfully, it worked in Case’s favor, as that Emmy reel led to her Lead Actress nomination. She understood the selection process, which was cut down due to time constraints.

But the acting alone can speak for itself in just a few short minutes. “You can tell within the first one or two minutes. Judges, they donate their time — it’s a lot of time,” Case said.

Case was previously nominated for seven Daytime Emmys. In 1999, she won an award for Supporting Actress, her only Daytime Emmy award.

All eyes will be on the Y&R fan favorite on Friday, October 17. Case has everything planned out, including what she’ll wear and who she’ll bring with her.

This time, she’s bringing her friends. It’s going to be a fun night of dancing and celebrating. “So I’m looking forward to that, and it’ll just be a lot of laughs and photos,” Case revealed.
