The Young and the Restless has been building up to celebrate Sharon Case’s 30 years of playing Sharon Newman. Her story has taken some dark and twisted turns, with Linden Ashby returning as Cameron, albeit as a sinister representation of her psyche. Executive producer and head writer Josh Griffith opened up about Sharon’s journey so far and what may lie ahead.

The Unexpected is Around the Corner

Griffith discussed the upcoming episode with Soap Opera Digest. He praised Case’s work in the special Sharon-centric episode: “Sharon’s work in her standalone episode is outstanding and a true showcase of why both Sharon Case and Sharon Collins Newman have been such an important character on Y&R for three decades.”

The scribe felt that touching upon Cassie’s (Camryn Grimes) death and Cameron were major points in Sharon’s life that needed to come out in the story.

He teased, “A series of shocking events will further connect Sharon to Daniel’s (Michael Graziadei) family, including Phyllis (Michelle Stafford). The years of hurt feelings and anger between these characters will reach a boiling point and take everyone on an unexpected ride.”

With her mind battling against Cameron, who’s like a devil on her shoulder, Sharon’s been struggling with everything. (Find out the real cost of Sharon’s past misdeeds.)

Her Painful Past is Present

Griffith was glad Ashby was more available for this run. He praised the amazing chemistry between Case and Ashby, explaining that their performances have elevated the story. Sharon has become a multi-layered character, and Griffith liked being able to bring elements from her past into play.

Sharon’s other daughter, Faith (Reylynn Caster), recently had a car accident, causing Sharon to experience Cassie’s death all over again. She dreamed that Daniel was bloody and yelling for their daughter.

Griffith explained that this facet of her subconscious is, “A painful reminder that Sharon and Daniel will always be connected due to Cassie’s death.” Sharon wants to punish her daughter’s killer, and Cameron is pushing her into the dark abyss of vengeance.

Fans are looking forward to the Sharon episode which promises to be an amazing culmination of Case’s three decades of evolving the character. Can she pull away from her darkest desires before something awful happens? Stay tuned.
