Kyle Abbott’s still a married man on The Young and the Restless, but his wife Summer Newman Abbott is going to look a bit different when she reappears on the show later next month. Hunter King is not returning, and actress Allison Lanier is taking over the role.
Allison Lanier Is Y&R’s New Summer
Allison Lanier is familiar to viewers of the Amazon series Red Oaks on which she played Annabelle. She is also set to be featured as Megan in It Happen in L.A. at the Sundance Film Festival. (The film also features Revenge actress Margarita Levieva, who played Amanda Clarke). Her other credits include the independent films Mia and Fish Bones.
Not much is known about the actress, who reportedly stands 5’7″ tall. However, we do know that she’s stepping into one of the most popular young roles on Y&R. Summer Newman Abbott is the daughter of Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford).
Summer’s Father’s Daze
Summer and Kyle went through quite the tumultuous non-traditional relationship. At one point, they thought they might have been related when it appeared that Kyle’s dad Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) might be Summer’s father. After all, Phyllis was having relations with both Nick and Jack around the time of Summer’s conception.
The couple’s romance was also complicated by Kyle and his feelings for Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle). Kyle and Lola tied the knot in a highly-touted wedding but the couple’s union didn’t last long. Sure, there was family drama interfering with their happiness but the biggest obstacle Kyle and Lola faced appeared to be his unresolved feelings for Summer.
Ciao Bella, Allison Lanier
Last year, Summer agreed to move to Italy and take a dream job so that Kyle could more freely spend time with his son Harrison (Kellan Enriquez). Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner) conspired with Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) to manipulate Summer out of Kyle’s life but the plan backfired. Tara was busted for stealing from her own company. Kyle and Summer wed — off-camera — and have been living happily in Italy with Harrison for months now. But with his mother, Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) back from the dead, a return to Genoa City was inevitable.
