Lately, Nick Newman has felt aimless, going through the motions on The Young and the Restless. He’s displeased with life, but he doesn’t know why. His dad Victor Newman complimented Nick during a heart-to-heart talk by telling him what a wonderful dad he’s been. Is this Nick’s greatest calling in life?

Young and the Restless Declares Nick the World’s Greatest Dad

After Victor (Eric Braeden) told Nick what a great dad he is, he joked with his children about it. However, it seemed that he did take Victor’s words to heart, but he didn’t quite believe it.

On Christmas, Nick’s late daughter Cassie Newman (Camryn Grimes) told her dad, “I think you’re doing great.” She went on to declare him the “greatest dad in the world.” She reminded Nick that all his kids felt the same way. Then she told him the unexamined life is not worth living, which must mean that it’s a good thing he’s been rethinking everything lately.

Sadly, Nick feels that he isn’t a good father because he didn’t protect Cassie. It especially hit him hard after Faith Newman (Reylynn Caster) ended up involved in a car accident similar to the one that took Cassie’s life. Is this failure the source of Nick’s discomfort these days? It certainly does seem that he hasn’t fully forgiven himself for Cassie’s death even though it wasn’t his fault she died.

If You Say So

While we can’t quite agree with The Young and the Restless that Nick is the world’s greatest dad, we do believe he’s done a mostly good job with his five children — Cassie, Noah Newman (Rory Gibson), Summer Newman (Hunter King), Faith, and Christian Newman (does this kid really exist?). Undoubtedly, Nick is among the top fathers in Genoa City.

Sure, like anybody, Nick makes mistakes (like never managing to make things work with any of their moms and feuding with his family). However, a large part of his identity is certainly wrapped up in being a dad. Perhaps if he’s able to focus on the positives, he’ll be able to continue being a great dad for all five children instead of falling into a depression or getting so caught up in what’s wrong that he doesn’t see what’s right.

While we’re trying to decide the validity of Nick’s newest title, we’d really love to snack on some of Rey Rosales’s (Jordi Vilasuso) guacamole.
