For what seems like ages, Joshua Morrow has entertained fans as the beloved Nick Newman on The Young and the Restless. While many actors have used soap operas as a jumping-off point to move on to primetime shows and even movies, the soap has provided him with great reasons to be happy where he is and continue doing what he loves.

Stability Is Key

In 1994, Morrow took on the Y&R role of Nick Newman as a SORAS’d teenager and has been a staple of Genoa City ever since. He’s been wrongfully accused of murder several times but always gets exonerated and is still a driving force for his family and friends, even being a hero when the need arises.

Morrow has enjoyed the high and low points of his character, always excitedly looking forward to his next major storyline. He makes his job look like so much fun that even his son Crew Morrow has joined in the action playing a recast Will on The Bold and the Beautiful.

In a July interview with Soaps, Morrow explained that over the years, many people have assumed that being on a daytime drama would be a mere starting point for his acting career, with movies or primetime shows being his ultimate goal. However, he doesn’t ascribe to that method, happily stating that “There is something about getting a daytime show, staying a long time and having that work/life balance that everyone talks about achieving but doesn’t always achieve,” stability that he termed as “priceless.” (Find out whether or not Nick has a hero complex.)

Tremendous Job Security

When Morrow began playing Nick, he realized that despite the rigorous days working on a daytime drama, the schedule suited his needs perfectly. “It occurred to me very early on that I really wanted to be a dad, and I wanted to be home for dinner at night and not have to be on location. [This job] checked all those boxes,” he stated. He further explained that, “Job security in Hollywood is difficult to attain.” But since the show has never been in danger of cancellation and its future always seemed secure, he knew Nick would always be there for him to play.

Referring to Y&R as “Incredible job security,” Morrow seems to have never been inclined to pursue stardom like so many other actors attempt. But he has appeared in a handful of projects including the Jason Statham actioner Parker (2013), where he ironically played a character named Nicholas Newman — most likely an homage to his most famous role. He’s also appeared in the thrillers Tentacle 8 (2014), and A Killer Walks Amongst Us (2016), among others, but thankfully for the fans, Y&R will always be his home.
