Michael Mealor and Hunter King are coming back to The Young and the Restless. While the characters have exited Genoa City to live in Italy, they’re due back on screen for some upcoming appearances.
Soap Opera Digest first reported the news that per a Y&R spokesperson, King and Mealor would be back on-screen in October. What’s bringing the duo home? Viewers will have to tune in to find out. King and Mealor’s exits have been discussed in the media for some time. Reportedly, the duo left Y&R after contract re-negotiations came to an impasse.
Mealor joined the show in 2018. Soon, Kyle was juggling two women — childhood pal Summer and purse-hating independent Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle) — marrying them both before deciding that Summer was his OTP. Earlier this year, the couple’s engagement hit a snag after Kyle’s cousin Theo (Tyler Johnson) returned to Genoa City long enough to drop a bombshell — Kyle was the father (!) of Tara Locke’s (Elizabeth Leiner) son Harrison (Kellen Enriquez).
Tara, who’d had an adulterous affair with Kyle, showed up to let him know that her husband Ashland (Richard Burgi) now knew about the affair she and Kyle had. There was more drama when Ashland came to Genoa City to check Kyle out for himself and sell his media company Cyaxares. Kyle Abbott eventually met Harrison and formed a bond with his biological child. Ashland learned the truth about him not being Harrison’s birth father.
Next, Tara showed her true colors by telling Summer that if she didn’t take the overseas job that Sally (Courtney Hope) had helped negotiate, she’d take Harrison far away from Kyle. Surprisingly, Summer acquiesced and packed her bags for Italy. Later, Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) exposed that Tara was stealing from her own company and was arrested. Ashland, who may be dying from cancer, opted to let Jack (Peter Bergman) take Harrison to Italy so he could live with Summer and Kyle.
Will Summer and Kyle be returning to the screen to bring Harrison back to see Ashland? Could we see the star-crossed lovers return to the show on a more permanent basis? Stay tuned to find out!
