For far too long, Ashley Abbott had been languishing on the Y&R sidelines, slipping in and out of town with nothing meaty to do. Sure, there would be an occasional spat with her big brother, Jack, but that didn’t cut it. Then the soap brought her ex-husband, Tucker McCall, back onto the scene, and suddenly everything changed. The pair’s reconnection has been so good for The Young and the Restless.
Ashley Abbott: Y&R Front and Center
Giving Eileen Davidson more to do is always a good move. The Daytime Emmy winner is a consummate actress and at her best when she’s being utilized as a leading lady. To see Ashley viable again and entrenched in a major storyline has been fabulous.
Davidson has easily connected with Trevor St. John, who took over the role of Tucker. There’s cerebral, cat-and-mouse chemistry between the two actors, and as Ashley toys with Tucker, she’s emerging as a power player again. For his part, Tucker seems to be intrigued by his ex-wife pulling his strings. The dance between them is riveting and a very different dynamic from the daytime norm.
Altruistic Y&R Motives
The latest twist, having Ashley buy up Tucker’s debt, has also revved up the battle between the Abbotts and the Newmans. It’s Ashley versus Victor (Eric Braeden) and Victoria (Amelia Heinle), both sides with a keen interest in McCall Unlimited. Albeit, Ashley’s motives were revealed to be more altruistic when she encouraged Tucker to sell the company to his estranged son, Devon (Bryton James), instead of Victor.
Could it be Ashley actually believes Tucker’s end goal really is to reconnect with Devon and reunite with her? If that’s the case and Ashley and Tucker end up reconciling, they could become a true Genoa City power couple.
Young and the Restless Abbotts in the Spotlight
Fortunately for Y&R fans, Davidson isn’t the only Abbott on the front burner of late. Peter Bergman is finally in a major plot as Jack, having reunited with the duplicitous Diane (Susan Walters). Davidson’s played a key part in that, too, as Ashley’s made no secret of her disdain for Diane.
Y&R has taken two big steps in bringing two of the three Abbott siblings back to the forefront, which leaves little sister Traci (Beth Maitland) as the only one in storyline limbo. But if Y&R fans are lucky, she’ll be getting her turn in the spotlight soon.
