After months of hearing about nothing but Dominic, Dominic, Dominic on The Young and the Restless, now that biological dad Devon Hamilton has joint custody with Abby Newman Abbott Chancellor and Chance Chancellor, it feels like the tot has gone to where all good soap opera babies go — “upstairs” with the overworked nanny.

Except for the minor scientific fact that it is actually less likely for a child to be a 100% match to their biological parent than it is for them to match a total stranger. The latter is just chromosomes coincidentally arranging themselves in the same way. The former, 50% is about as good as you can hope for because — biology.

At the time, we assumed it was the show’s way of planting the clue that Dom wasn’t actually Devon’s, after all. We eagerly waited for the big reveal. We are still waiting.

So if Devon isn’t Dom’s father, who is? Stitch Rayburn pulling the old sperm switch-a-roo is the obvious suspect. But how about someone a lot less obvious. How about…Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso)?

How the heck could that have happened, we can hear you screaming. And we’re answering right back — calmly — the same way that Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) ended up fathering Abby (Melissa Ordway), or Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) fathering Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor).

Genoa City sperm banks are constantly being robbed and/or mislabeling donations. Rey is a cop. He could be killed at any second. We can see him banking some sperm just in case. And we can see the lab messing up Mariah Copeland’s (Camryn Grimes) insemination.

And we can really see the truth coming out and Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) deciding that Rey’s baby should have been hers. After all, she’s convinced herself they were falling in love. She deserves this child. Now we have a story!
