The United States celebrated Independence Day this week, but it was noticeably absent on The Young and the Restless. Where has all the summertime fun gone?
For many years, Y&R celebrated July 4 in fine style with rooftop celebrations by the pool and lots of patriotic-themed clothing, flags, and fireworks. It used to be a summertime staple in Genoa City. However, this year, the CBS soap made no mention at all of the holiday, and we can’t help but wonder why?
In fact, other than more scenes in Chancellor Park, there’s barely any indication that its summer in Genoa City. We’ve had so many great summer storylines in the past…who could forget Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) diving into the pool without any clothes on for Jabot? Sure, we heard that Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) sold the GCAC, which could be why nobody hangs at the rooftop pool these days, but still.
Oftentimes, summer in Genoa City was a time for teen scene storylines, adult relationships heating up as they wore fewer clothes and plenty of family fun and gatherings. We realize that the show has fewer large scenes with lots of cast members, but it still felt strange not to even see decorations for July 4th at Crimson Lights, Society, and The Grand Phoenix.
We hope this isn’t an indication of how the future will be for The Young and the Restless. Perhaps next year will bring the return of the traditional summer celebrations in Genao City.
The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes. For more about what’s coming up in Genoa City, check out all the latest that’s been posted on Y&R spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
