They’ve been the show’s young golden duo for a few years, the offspring of rival families, which is the perfect recipe for super coupling on soaps. Yet, no matter their popularity or the chemistry between the two actors that portray them, the time was right for Kyle Abbott and Summer’s split on The Young and the Restless.
Summer and Kyle Abbott: So Happy Together
Nothing evolves into boredom faster than a happy soap couple. So obstacles have to be thrown into their path to keep things interesting and test their strength. Since Summer (Allison Lanier) came to terms with Kyle’s (Michael Mealor) past affair with Tara and welcomed the twosome’s lovechild, Harrison, as her own, they’ve flourished, despite weathering the animosity between their mothers, Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) and Diane (Susan Walters).
Over the Y&R Edge
But when Phyllis faked her death and framed Diane for “murder,” the tension between Summer and Kyle reached new heights, particularly after Diane was arrested for the crime. Then Summer learned her mother was alive and kept the secret that could have instantly freed Diane. Kyle erupted upon learning the truth, realizing that Summer had sacrificed his mother for her own. It was an insurmountable obstacle, giving the soap a justifiable reason to split the popular couple and rev up their story.
Kyle Abbott: Shake It Up
Kyle demanding Summer move out of the Abbott mansion took things to the next level as fans who adore the couple have watched their marriage crumble. While a crushed and lovesick Summer has remained determined to win back Kyle, he’s gone off the rails and found a way to soothe his pain – bedding the sultry Audra (Suleyka Silver). It’s added another fiery element to Kyle and Summer’s front burner split, creating a must-watch new triangle.
Summer Days
Meanwhile, Summer’s found a new friend and confidante in Chance (Conner Floyd), the police officer investigating the case against Phyllis and, in turn, Summer, who was a knowing accomplice after the fact. It’s a complicated, albeit intriguing, relationship considering the subtle sparks between the pair. And now that Chance has taken things to the next level with Sharon (Sharon Case), it makes the situation even more interesting. Just imagine Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) ex-wife and daughter both involved with the same man.
The Y&R End Game
However, as longtime soap viewers know, the end game will likely be a Kyle and Summer reunion after a long, arduous struggle. In the meantime, it promises to be an interesting ride riddled with heartbreak, betrayal, and a few legal complications along the way, which will make their reconciliation all the sweeter when it finally happens.
