The Curious Case of Tessa Porter’s Contract on Young and the Restless

On The Young and the Restless, Tessa Porter gave Noah Newman (and us) some surprising good news when she asked him to do her a big favor.

Young and the Restless — The Journey of Tessa Porter

The first time Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) signed with Devon Hamilton’s (Bryton James) music label, it all came crashing down when Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) realized her girlfriend stole the words from her journal and passed it off as her own song.

Devon demoted Tessa, and it seemed as if all was lost when it came to her music career. However, she ended up redeeming herself somewhat and going on tour with her successful ex for a bit, which served to cause some strife for her and Mariah. But, ultimately, they found their way back to each other, and Tessa seemed to do well with her music.

Another Missed Opportunity

Now, Tessa’s back in Genoa City regularly. So imagine our shock when we learned that along with dealing with Mariah’s surrogacy, kidnapping, singing at Victoria Newman’s (Amelia Heinle) wedding in Italy, and the current baby Dominic drama, Tessa also found time to re-sign with Devon’s music label.

Not only did Young and the Restless have her reveal that she was re-signed, Tessa somehow managed to create an entire album’s worth of songs and recorded them to the point that she handed the recordings over to Noah Newman (Rory Gibson) to serve as inspiration for the album art she asked him to create.

It isn’t easy to see when either Devon or Tessa had time to spend in the studio lately. Even stranger, we can’t understand how or why neither mentioned anything about this momentous occasion.

Once again, Y&R managed to take what should have been a moving (and cheap to produce) scene showing Tessa coming full circle and signing a new contract complete with a celebration and did it off-screen. It’s a milestone moment for the singer/songwriter that could’ve involved Devon and Mariah in a way that didn’t center around Abby Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) and baby Dominic. Instead, the show threw it in simply to give Tessa and Noah something to talk about (and Noah something to actually do in Genoa City).

We’ve appreciated a few of the flashback scenes recently. For instance, at least we got to see Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) break up. Plus, we saw a hint of Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) testifying against her grandfather. But, even so, we’re so tired of big, milestone events happening off-screen.

The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes. For more about what’s coming up in Genoa City, check out all the latest that’s been posted on Y&R spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
