The Young and the Restless viewers know that Sharon Rosales is a caring mother and friend. She does her best to run her coffee shop and dole out advice to some of Genoa City’s finest. This week, however, she faced a nightmare after Cameron abducted her daughter, Faith. For her performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R are presented to Sharon’s portrayer, Sharon Case.
This week started off with a bang when Cameron (Linden Ashby) texted Sharon a photo of Faith (Reylynn Caster) tied up and seemingly unconscious. Sharon’s reaction was chilling. The full-body scream and despair that Case played brought tears to nearly everyone’s eyes. She made it so that viewers could truly feel Sharon’s anguish.
Throughout the scenes, Case continued to bring out her best when she showed off Sharon’s determination as a mother to do whatever it took to get Cameron to return Faith safely. She was clearly panicked, but Sharon Case managed to showcase her character’s strength as well through firm movements and resigned facial expressions.
The stiffness of her body language revealed how Sharon truly felt when Cameron forced a kiss on her, but she promised to run away with him just so long as he released her daughter. Obviously, Sharon felt repulsed, and Case did a wonderful job through her expressions, movements, and tears throughout the week.
The defining moment of the week came when Cameron attempted to force Nick (Joshua Morrow) to choose whether Faith or Sharon lived. She kept her cool even as Cameron held a knife to her neck. Sharon carefully and so slowly reached down to get the knife Nick had taped to her leg. As Chase (Conner Floyd) ordered Cameron to get on the ground, Sharon did hesitate. Case chose the perfect body language and look in Sharon’s eyes when she didn’t hesitate and stabbed Cameron instead. He made a mistake in attacking Sharon’s child, and he paid the price. Case’s Sharon reminded us that there’s nothing more powerful than a mother’s love.
Bravo on an excellent performance! We can’t wait to see how the rest of this plays out.
