The Young and the Restless viewers know that Nate Hastings is a doctor grappling with a huge life change. After losing his ability to perform surgery, Dr. Hastings still hasn’t made his peace with his new position in the medical field, so he decided to take up Ashland Locke on his job offer, but then he found out about Ashland’s deep deception. For his performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R is presented to Nate’s portrayer, Sean Dominic.
Ever since Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) punched his cousin, causing Nate an injury that derailed his career as a surgeon, the doctor has been unhappy with his new lot in life. Nate’s made the best of it, building something of a life with Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy), and after the unlikely Ashland (Robert Newman) befriended him, Nate’s been involved in the business mogul’s life.
However, their friendship came to a screeching halt this week when Nate finally realized he’d been used by Ashland to help fake the latter’s cancer. Sean Dominic managed to let Nate’s indignation show through as the doctor confronted his fake friend.
The best thing about the actor’s performance was showing Nate’s full fury at being used in such a way and his disbelief that somebody he thought was his friend would fake such a terrible disease. Not only did Dominic pull that off through the dialogue, but also with his flashing angry eyes and rigid body language. We also loved when Nate burst into Newman Media to hand Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) the smoking gun they needed to bring down Victoria Newman Locke’s (Amelia Heinle) husband. Bravo, Sean Dominic!
