The Young and the Restless viewers know that Johnny Abbott has a family who loves him in his adoptive mother, Victoria Newman and his father, Billy Abbott. However, he recently learned Chelsea Lawson was his biological mother, and he wasn’t thrilled to have that new information dumped on him. For his performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R is presented to Johnny’s portrayer, Paxton Mishkind.
Paxton Mishkind — Y&R Performer of the Week
The Johnny actor stepped into the role during a messy storyline for the youngster. While Johnny always knew Victoria (Amelia Heinle) was his adopted mom, he never really had many questions about who his biological mom was. After Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) insisted, Billy and Victoria told him, which didn’t go well.
This week, Mishkind showed that Johnny was starting to be somewhat back to his old self. He shared some fun and snarky moments with his dad at Crimson Lights, and the young actor hit the perfect tone of voice to convey that Johnny just wanted to be back to his old life, worrying about typical kid things like being sarcastic with his dad. His body language also revealed how much Johnny wanted the subject to change when Billy once again brought up Chelsea being his biological mom.
Then, when Johnny anxiously awaited his school group in Chancellor Park, Mishkind did a wonderful job conveying Johnny’s feelings without even saying a word, simply through his facial expressions and tense movements. When Chelsea showed up, the actor instantly made Johnny’s discomfort known by moving away from her and his angry tone of voice when he spoke with her.
Paxton Mishkind tackled an incredibly emotional topic for Johnny, and he did an excellent job delivering the lines in the right manner to reveal just how upsetting Johnny found the whole thing. He showed viewers that Johnny just wanted his life to go back to normal and to be a regular kid. Bravo on an excellent performance. We can’t wait to see what happens next with him.
