The Young and the Restless viewers know that Victor Newman is a powerful businessman. He built Newman Enterprises from the ground up, but a while ago, he retired. However, he decided that his kids running the business hadn’t worked out, so he made some significant changes, which caused lots of fallout. For his performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R is presented to Victor’s portrayer, Eric Braeden.
This week, Victor celebrated as his portrait returned to its spot on the wall at his business. Victoria (Amelia Heinle) let her displeasure at Victor’s demoting her quite clear. She tearfully let her father know she wasn’t on board, and he didn’t appreciate her disrespect.
During their conversation, Braeden had Victor get loud and forceful. He showed viewers a glimpse of the Victor of days gone past. All he’s ever wanted was for Victoria, Nick (Joshua Morrow), Adam (Mark Grossman), and maybe Abby (Melissa Ordway) to carry on his legacy. Unfortunately for him and for them, he’s never quite satisfied with their performance.
We also appreciated when Victor greeted Lily (Christel Khalil) in his office. His extreme happiness at seeing her came through in Braeden’s demeanor and facial expressions. Despite that, Victor remained firm in not even giving her the slightest hint about to whom he sold his shares of Chancellor-Winters. The veteran actor hit all the right notes at the moment, showing a bit of softness along with his no-nonsense business side.
Another moment where Braeden shined as Victor this week is when Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Victor enjoyed a drink together at the Genoa City Athletic Club bar. Kyle seemed taken aback when Victor said he was glad to see him gone from Newman Media. However, the reason wasn’t quite what Kyle expected, and Braeden delivered the lines about Kyle belonging with the Abbotts perfectly. It lined right up with Victor’s own plans for his family’s legacy.
Bravo, Eric Braeden, on a week filled with excellent performances. We can’t wait to see what happens next at Newman Enterprises.
