The Young and the Restless viewers know that Sally Spectra is a fighter. She didn’t have the best role models in her parents growing up, but she’d really come around to the idea of being a mother herself and making things different for her little girl. A heartbreaking pregnancy complication led to Ava Hope Spectra’s death, leaving Sally in the depths of grief. For her performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R is presented to Sally’s portrayer, Courtney Hope.
Courtney Hope: Y&R Performer of the Week
This week, Courtney Hope simply broke us all. Her absolute raw performance portraying Sally’s grief after losing her baby was undeniably the performance of her career so far. It truly felt as if this storyline actually happened in real life, bringing us to tears multiple times this week. The realness she brought to this wretched subject was superb.
Hope showed her character’s utter desolation after learning Ava didn’t make it through her facial expressions and body language. She just had no life left in her eyes, and her body was simply deflated, showing the loss of what had been there just days before. All Sally’s hopes and dreams disappeared from her eyes and body in those moments after she awakened from the emergency c-section.
Her portrayal of the grief Sally experienced was truly moving. Her tone of voice, the yelling, screaming, moaning, and sobbing literally broke our hearts. The way Sally lashed out at Adam (Mark Grossman) revealed the depths of the character’s grief, but even in the anger, she stayed forlorn.
Of course, Mark Grossman complimented Hope’s performance perfectly as he portrayed Adam, who grieved deeply after making such a heartbreaking and impossible choice. For that, we must give an honorable mention shoutout to Grossman’s strong performance. We truly cannot wait to see how Sally makes it through this journey. Hope did this tragic storyline justice in a way we haven’t seen in a while on Y&R. Bravo, Courtney Hope, and here’s to many more great performances.
