The Young and the Restless viewers know that Lily Winters will do whatever it takes to ensure Chancellor-Winters is a big success, but she’s been seriously frustrated by her boyfriend, Billy Abbott’s timing lately because she doesn’t feel supported. The recent arrival of her ex, Daniel Romalotti, proved to be quite the foil for the situation. For her performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R is presented to Lily’s portrayer, Christel Khalil.
Christel Khalil — Y&R Performer of the Week
This week, Lily had the opportunity to catch up with Daniel (Michael Graziadei), and she also tried to have a serious talk with Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson). Khalil was able to portray Lily’s growing frustration with Billy very clearly, and it’s so evident in contrasting her behavior in her scenes with each man. Early in the week, Lily attempted to have a serious conversation with Billy, and when he ignored her in favor of Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan), Lily’s frustration came out in Khalil’s tone of voice, expressions, and body language.
Christel Khalil used subtle changes in her facial expressions to convey when she didn’t like what was happening with Billy. In contrast, when she was with Daniel, she was smiling, and her eyes were soft and happy. Her entire body language seemed to lighten. For instance, with Billy, she was stiff and pulled away from him slightly, but with Daniel, she seemed soft and leaned in toward him.
This contrast became even more defined when Billy ended up sitting down at a table with Lily, Daniel, Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier), and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) at Society. Lily’s demeanor immediately changed when Billy arrived. She seemed highly annoyed to have him there when she’d been enjoying Daniel’s company so much. There’s no doubt that Billy could pick up on it too.
It’s been interesting to see how Lily simply lights up in Daniel’s presence while she dims in Billy’s. Bravo on an excellent performance, and we look forward to many more!
