Lily Winters is doing whatever she can to make her new relationship with Daniel work on The Young and the Restless. She encourages him to connect with Lucy and expresses no resentment of Heather returning to Genoa City. Lily even accepts Phyllis as a presence in her life. Everything is just great! But, has Lily given any thought as to why she is throwing herself head-first into a new relationship so soon after getting out of another one with Billy? We have.
On The Couch: Lily Winters
Lily (Christel Khalil) and Daniel (Michael Graziadei) were teenage sweethearts. They were so devoted to each other once upon a time that they even went on the run together when he was accused of causing Cassie’s (Camryn Grimes) death.
Of course, teen relationships rarely last. Before long, they broke up and moved on. Daniel found love with Heather (Vail Bloom) and Lucy (Lily Brooks O’Briant), and Lily made a life with Cane (Daniel Goddard) and their children before trying for a romance with Billy (Jason Thompson). None of those worked out well.
Y&R: Back to Before
Lily lived through so much with Cane. He died, he came back, and they had twins via surrogate. Lily accepted Cane’s illegitimate son, Sam. When Lily went to prison, Cane stood by her…mostly. But, in the end, he took off. Sure, it was to prove his innocence of stealing Devon’s (Bryton James) inheritance. He didn’t have to leave but he did, anyway.
Lily then tried to move on with her life with Billy. However, in addition to Billy being less mature than Lily’s college-age children, Billy was also in a new relationship – and he never does those very well. Being with him was great and fun…until it wasn’t. She left him high and dry when Daniel came to town. Daniel is different, after all.
Daniel & Lily: A Y&R Dream Couple
When she’s with Daniel, Lily can erase the Cane years. Not her children, of course, but the Cane years, nonetheless. With Daniel, Lily can pretend that it’s a direct line from their young love to their more mature love, with nothing having come in the middle. Daniel isn’t a fresh start….he’s a way to pretend there was never an ending.
