How Young and the Restless Almost Made Us Side With Victor Newman

Victor had a point when talking to Nick about Adam on Y&R.

If there is one thing that is always true on The Young and the Restless, it’s that Victor Newman is incapable of putting his children ahead of himself. Whenever he tells them what to do with their lives, it is always about what’s best for him, not what’s best for them.

Victor Newman On The Young and the Restless

Which is why whenever Victor starts on one of his infamous “You are being disloyal to this family” rants, the automatic reaction is to tune out – and lower the volume. However, when Victor went off on Nick about his treatment of Adam, we were forced to concede that The Mustache had a bit of a point. How dare Y&R make us feel that way?

Truth in Television

Victor (Eric Braeden) was not wrong when he accused Nick (Joshua Morrow) of deliberately trying to assert his dominance over Adam (Mark Grossman) by insisting on being a part of pregnant Sally’s (Courtney Hope) life – and, presumably, the life of Adam and Sally’s child, as well. (Hope. Why are we pretending that this baby will be named anything other than Hope?) Nick has been a dick – and a spoiled brat – from the beginning. Victor nailed his older son’s behavior on that one.

Victor Newman: It’s All About Me

On the other hand, leave it to Victor to make even this conflict between the brothers about himself. Nick wasn’t being obnoxious to Adam because Adam is Adam (and periodically deserves it), but because Nick is actually attacking Victor. Being mean to Victor’s younger son is the same as being mean to him, don’t you know? And Victor won’t stand for it! Did you get that?

In By a Nose

Luckily, just when Victor was starting to make sense, he not only made it about himself, but he also stuck his nose into a situation that is utterly not his business. Even if he were right – and we admit it, up to a point, he was – it’s still not his place to tell Nick how to manage his personal life with Sally. Phew. For a minute we thought the mumbly mogul had changed his spots…
