The Young and the Restless introduced the Rosales clan to the canvas in 2018 to great fanfare. Sure, the first Rosales to arrive in Genoa City was a handyman name Arturo Rosales, who promptly had an affair with the much older Nikki Newman when she and Victor Newman had an open marriage for a few months.
The family had a bit of an auspicious beginning. But after that, the whole Rosales family eventually made it to Genoa City, and the last Rosales is now getting ready to leave.
After Arturo (Jason Canela) arrived in town, we next met his sister, Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle), a gourmet chef who ran a food truck outside Crimson Lights. Lola quickly caught on with fans and became part of a hot pairing when she fell for Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor), and within a year had all the soap heroine horrors dumped on her.
She almost drowned, she needed a kidney, her boyfriend married Summer Newman (Hunter King) so Summer would donate her kidney, she made a choice to lose her virginity to Kyle while he was still married to Summer, and then she married Kyle soon after he dumped Summer, all in the course of a year. Not even a year after that, Kyle dumped Summer for Lola, and the character was wasted and sent back to Florida.
By the time Lola left town, a crew of Rosaleses had come and gone. Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) arrived and became a GCPD cop. Then, his ex-wife, Mia Rosales (Noemi Gonzalez), showed up, and we learned they broke up because she had an affair with former first love Arturo and still had feelings for him.
By this point, Arturo was dating Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) and Mia was quite jealous. Gonzalez gave us a character who had no fears and would say and do whatever she wanted to get what she wanted, but in the end, she and Arturo were written off when a one-night stand produced a pregnancy.
Perhaps the biggest mistake Y&R made with the Rosales clan was hiring soap vet Eva LaRue to play Celeste Rosales, the woman who raised her kids as a single woman when her husband left her.
But, after a brief flirtation with Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) that went nowhere and a Daytime Emmy win, LaRue’s Celeste left town never to be heard from again. In fact, we even learned she took the deadbeat husband back who left her all those years ago with three young children.
Rey remained the last Rosales standing and even married longtime Y&R hapless heroine Sharon Collins (Sharon Case), but that wasn’t enough for the show to decide to keep him around. (OK, we admit, Sharon and Rey don’t always exude passion and romance.)
Vilasuso has taped his last scenes and while we are not sure yet how Rey will go, we do know he is not long for The Young and the Restless as a new core family with so much story potential is no more.
