Everyone on The Young and the Restless thinks they’re a great father, from Victor Newman, who always puts his family first, to Jack Abbott, who lost so many chances to be a hands-on parent, to Kyle Abbott, who expresses his paternal love by making sure he’s the only Daddy his newfound son knows. Even dead fathers get a shout-out.
The Young and the Restless: Happy Father’s Day
Jack (Peter Bergman), Ashley (Eileen Davidson), Traci (Beth Maitland), and Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) are constantly reminiscing about John Abbott (Jerry Douglas), the dad who was always there for his kids, and Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) and Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) do the same about Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John), even though he wasn’t the biological parent of either of them.
Those are the dads who get all the love in Genoa City. But, for this Father’s Day, we thought we’d take a look at some of the less celebrated paternal figures, who also deserve their share of huzzahs.
Y&R: Accept No Substitutions
It was a pleasant surprise to hear Abby Newman Abbott Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) admit that she feels like a Carlton in her heart during Ashley and Traci’s trip down Memory Lane.
Brad Carlton (Don Diamont) knew he wasn’t Abby’s biological dad, but he stepped in and played the role, loving her even after he and Ashley split up. Nowadays, Abby is all about being a Newman and an Abbott and a Chancellor. But she was a Carlton first, and her first dad deserves to continue being honored.
The Young and the Restless: Second Generation
Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) can’t stop talking about what a wonderful parent he is. It doesn’t leave a lot of room to acknowledge that his son, Nicholas Newman (Joshua Morrow) actually has him beat by a mile.
Not only is Nick always there for his biological kids, Noah Newman (Rory Gibson) and Faith Newman (Reylynn Caster), but he also adopted Sharon Rosales’s (Sharon Case) daughter, Cassie (Camryn Grimes), walked Cassie’s long-lost twin, Mariah Copeland (also Grimes), down the aisle, and is raising Christian (Alex Wilson), the son he knows is biologically Adam Newman’s (Mark Grossman), but that Nick fought to keep. Even when his own father turned against him. Happy father’s day!
