Nikki Newman fell off the wagon on The Young and the Restless — through no fault of her own. Nikki is admitting her problem and going to AA meetings, doing the work she has to. Victor is being supportive. But there is a limit to just how supportive Victor can be.
Nikki Newman: In Need
Victor’s (Eric Braeden) support for anything usually lasts right up until it is no longer convenient for him. Then, he needs the problem to go away, pronto. It’s now causing problems for him, and that’s not how the world works. So, what happens when Nikki can no longer turn to Victor? (Let’s not forget back in October when Victor said this.) Where will she seek comfort next?
Been There, Done That
Sure, Jack (Peter Bergman) seems like the obvious choice. Jack is always Nikki’s (Melody Thomas Scott) backup guy when she and Victor are in the downward part of their up-and-down cycle. In addition, Jack knows what it’s like to be an addict. He fought his pill dependency and thus can be sympathetic in a way Victor isn’t capable of being.
But, Jack is currently happy with Diane (Susan Walters). Besides, that relationship is played out. We have another sympathetic shoulder for Nikki to cry on: Billy (Jason Thomason).
New Year, New Me
Now, hear us out, hear us out! Billy is yet another addict who has fallen off the wagon multiple times. And, every time he does, he never feels bad about it. It’s always someone else’s fault, never his, and, besides, no harm done, right? When Nikki gets tired of those party-poopers at AA insisting she is responsible for her own actions, Billy’s message of innocence even when obviously guilty could be exactly what she needs to hear.
But, Wait, There’s More
Let’s not forget, Billy LOVES damaged women who need him. If he could fall for Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) despite her being his rapist, he should have no trouble doing the same with his ex-mother-in-law. ESPECIALLY, if Nikki acts like he is the only one capable of coming to her rescue.
