A Critic’s Review Of The Young and the Restless: Squeals, Coughs & Positive Vibes

The author’s opinions on Y&R are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: The Critic Offers HIS Take

Tickled as I am to know that Jess Walton [Jill Abbott] will soon be on the canvas proper — rather than literally phoning her performance in — and to see a plot point from decades earlier being revisited, Josh “I Do All the Jobs” Griffith is really going to have his work cut out for him convincing me that there’s a real point to all this tomfoolery.

And I get that an act of revenge is a dish best served cold, but by now Jill and Mamie’s (Veronica Redd) abhorrence for one another should be frozen solid — had either woman actually given the other a single thought in the intervening years? — and Mamie’s sudden concern over her battling brood doesn’t exactly ring true considering her prolonged absence from their lives.

Further Y&R Musings

* A Leanna Love (Barbara Crampton) cameo! Squeal! Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian) is back on the canvas and mixing it up with Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) and Daniel (Michael Graziadei)! Double squeal!

If only there hadn’t been that throwaway line about Christine (Lauralee Bell) being in Lisbon trying to work things out with Paul. I really have no interest in investing in a love triangle where one of the participants is off-screen *cough*Summer/Chance/Sharon*cough*

* Nikki’s (Melody Thomas Scott) sudden interest in mentoring Audra (Zuleyka Silver) — which is no doubt a case of keeping your friends close and enemies closer — is giving Nikki and Mia Rosales vibes, and I don’t mind that.

* While the very idea of yet more corporate chicanery grates on my nerves, I’ll cop to being mildly intrigued by the Victoria (Amelia Heinle) vs. Victor (Eric Braeden) storyline.

* I’m less invested in the ongoing Tucker (Trevor St. John) vs. the Abbotts arch, mostly because it already seems to be running out of steam and sputtering towards a most ignoble “climax.”
